Now let me get this thread back on topic ...
About pictures in signatures actually. I thought in the beginning it was an unspoken agreement not to use pictures in the signature? Now after awhile lots of people have pictures in their sig. Although I find them annoying (and sometimes inappropriate, like seeing the picture of a Viper on a RPG forum ) but I think if no one protests I won't either. But now I would like to point out a problem, actually about Lews' sig. I'm still using 800x600 mode because I only have a small monitor. I think he might be using a higher resolution because his sig is taking 2 "lines" of picture space instead of 1. The picture is just too long for my screen. And now every post Lews makes consists of one or 2 lines of text, and the equivalent of 30 lines text in the signature ... I hope this can be corrected or maybe modified in the forum software? And if not, Lews, could you please adjust your sig .
Thank you

I can only agree with Soul on this. Some pages look like a colourbook. More pictures than written words.

hey I wasn't going to use one at first but since people started doing it and no one complained I thought "what the heck"
and besides, the pic in my sig doesn't NEED to have anything to do with RPG, it's an identification of the person, like your own signature or do you use different signatures on different occasions Soul ??

I didn't complain because I've had disabled the display of all signatures in my profile almost since the beginning. For the very reason that people tend to abuse them so much.
I've just enabled them again to see how everything looks.. Oh boy! This is sick! What do people want with signatures that have colored text, too much text, images, animated images or too large images in it?! Images in signatures are SPAM! Large images are even more SPAM! Personalization? Really, a fairly sized personal avatar is not enough for that?
It really hurts the reading pleasure. In my opinion colors or images in signatures should be forbidden, just like in the old forum. Or they could be disabled altogether by default, though that might be a bit drastic.
Arhu

If you can disable "show sigs", then why do you complain? I don't really see the point. Sorry, in every forum where I was before sigs were allowed and I do not see why they shouldn't be here. Especially when most people got broadband: I got dialup and still it isn't hard on my connection.

As I said, totally disabling them might be a bit too drastic. But I don't complain about the size (in bytes) of images in signatures, which I still find a bit annoying sometimes even with broadband by the way, but about the visible size of some signatures. They are obtrusive and distracting. Sure, I can disable "show sigs", but the majority of lurkers can't. They have to wade through lots of junk that is interesting once or maybe twice, but otherwise irritating. If you come to a forum to find useful information or just for a fun discussion, then all the superfluous extra bits can be quite tiresome, to put it mildly.
Besides, I don't have anything against signatures in general, actually I do like them for what they are, just not when they are "louder" than the text that should matter. I would like to enable them, but their current neon-blinking-popup-advertisement like nature prevents me from doing so.

Arhu, I read your post, contemplated on it and deleted my signature altogether. My avatar and log in name are more than enough for identification. Thank you and I apologise for not noticing this before. I hope that others should follow even if it reduced the fun they are having. I was severely criticised for using a bold font for all of my text on another forum, and I succumbed because the members of that forum considered it as abuse and rude netiquette. I hope that other posters realise that it is not an issue of freedom but rather an issue of mutual respect and standard norms.

You forgot the option 'doesn't matter, I turned off the display of signatures'. Nothing personal; I set that option when I signed up.

To tell you the truth, I don't give a cow about the poll. I made it to please people and win some time to make my new ultimate sig: 2000x2000, only 4 kb size. Sorry, Lews, Raze, Jurak, Carrie, Joliekiller, Viper, DAD, HandEFood, Jack, Mandrake and my other friends.
