Did the game grash after it completed saving? If so, try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

If the game crashed mid-save, there may be files missing from the saved game folder. A new game should have 22 files, after going to either Verdistis or the Dark Forest it should have 27, and after going to both it should have 32.

BTW, among other things, the latest patch adds multiple quick saves (the default is for 2).

Please remember that if you load the patch, that does not effect your saved games. In order to play the game with the patch you have to start all over. Sorry...

But still the game runs smoothly with the patch so it is worth it.

To clarify that, some of the story fixes do not apply unless you start a new game, but the extra quick save, technical fixes, etc will work with existing saves.

ya i went in and deleted a whoping 32 files in the directory you specified raze, started DD back up ( after DLing the patch ofcourse ) crossed my fingers and loaded my lost game, to no avail o well guess that gives me an oppertunity to try my rogue/summoner idea. thanks for the info and help raze gives me a chance next time if i run across another inconvienent bug . dont get me wrong macbeth warriors as always are fun to play, but i do think they could've done somthing to make them a bit more powerful, i dunno maybe im a bit spoiled being able to whirlwind my way through 20 baddies then leaping a screen away etc. in this game your only close combat ability is a slow 360 spin... kinda makes it difficult to keep up with the kill ratio range/magic can yeild, however if this was a multiplayer ( online even ) game i would get down toataly all out with a warrior, but being that DD is strictly single player killing the fastest is all that really matters in my oppinion.

Well, at least the patch will probably prevent that particular crash from reoccuring. Obviously, quicksave often! Also, there's a way of increasing the number of quicksave slots from 2 to whatever you want (it involves changing a text INI file - but unfortunately I forget the deails. )

Warriors are already the most powerful class. Other that mana per intelligence point, warriors pretty much get the best benefits from their stats;

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version) (contains much of the information in the above topic).

You can substitute Flash Attack for leaping.
