Simply.. the availablity to use str rather than dex to give a combat bonus. A Fighters higher str can give him the advantage in combat rather than how dexterous he is... I know this is a long debate and many of you won't understand... but options for both Strength and Dex based combat really does make sense.

Just look at the first Diablo - where the cap on stats meant that Rogues would be the better Melee fighters because they retained the ability to hit people whilst the Warriors floundered with their low chances to hit.

Not such a bad idea. After all, in real life, speed is related to Strength. The only problem is what is the point of Agility to a Warrior then? Strength affects damage, so if you had 100 Strength instead of 50 Strength and 50 Agility, you could hit twice as often and do twice as much damage. It's a little unfair.

But then, the same goes for Intelligence. It's near useless to almost anyone bar a Wizard. That's why I prefer Diablo II's combat system. Each attribrute is required by all classes.

If they had such a low dexterity then their armour class would suffer and they wouldn't be able to equip some weapons that need a dex... also it's not like the survivor needs strength when they can get hoards of extra damage on their attacks through the use of damage enhancing skills... my point being that warriors suffered because they also needed to have dex whilst no one else really needs to bother that much with Str...

And non-Wizards don't need Intelligence. And technically, you can avoid needing Constitution at all for most of the game. I didn't put any points into Constitution until I reached the high 20 levels.

I see what you mean. Rangers only need Agility for their bows and Wizards only need Intelligence for spells. A Warrior could use only Strength for melee. I think this is just going to cause over-specialised characters. I'd much rather see a requirement for all attributes in each class.

Strange, I was just saying that a game play mechanic made Warriors out of power in comparison to a Survivor because they'd have to raise Dex to greater levels to be able to hit things, whilst their High str wouldn't really serve except for equiping items... there's nothing wrong with people being specialised, but it's also a good idea to give those who don't go all in one viable options.

Fair enough. But strangely, why does the Warrior come out on top in Divine Divinity?

That the players fault, I know that Survivors can be far more deadly in combat than a Warrior and they're certainly easier.
