Nice thread this. I might even read it sometime . Anywhay, I'll just post some of my favorite lyrics and hope someone haven't posted them allready (like LUCRETIA who, from what I've read seems to be the kind of pearsons who could have posted them). Well here we go:

Cure-Pictures of you

i've been looking so long at these pictures of
you that i almost beleive that they're real
i've been living so long with my pictures of you that
i almost believe that the pictures are all i can
feel

remembering you standing quiet in the rain as
i ran to your heart to be near
and we kissed as the sky fell in holding you close
how i always held close in your fear
remembering you running soft through the night
you were bigger and brigther and whiter than the snow
and screamed at the make-beleive screamed at the
sky and you finally found all your courage to
let it all go

remembering you fallen into my arms crying
for the death of your heart
you were stone white so delicate lost in the cold you were
always so lost in the dark
remembering you how you used to be slow drowned you were
angels so much more than everything
oh hold for the last time then slip away quietly open
my eyes but i never see anything ( I love that part)

if only i had thought of the right words i could
have hold on to your heart
if only i'd thought of the right words i wouldn't be breaking apart all
my pictures of you

Looking So long at these pictures of you but i
never hold on to your heart
looking so long for the words to be true but always just breaking
apart my pictures of you

there was nothing in the world that i ever wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart
there was nothing in the world that i ever
wanted more than to never feel the breaking
apart all my pictures of you

And:

Tonight-Smashing Pumpkins

time is never time at all
you can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
and our lives are forever changed
we will never be the same
the more you change the less you feel

believe, believe in me, believe

that life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
we're not the same, we're different tonight
tonight, so bright
tonight

and you know you're never sure
but you're sure you could be right
if you held yourself up to the light
and the embers never fade in your city by the lake
the place where you were born

believe, believe in me, believe

in the resolute urgency of now
and if you believe there's not a chance tonight
tonight, so bright tonight

we'll crucify the insincere tonight
we'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
we'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
the indescribable moments of your life tonight
the impossible is possible tonight
believe in me as i believe in you, tonight

here's an golden oldie from Mac Davis, & the lyrics are so cool!

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day.
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.

I used to have a girlfriend
but she just couldn't compete
with all of these love starved women
who keep clamoring at my feet.
Well I prob'ly could find me another
but I guess they're all in awe of me.
Who cares, I never get lonesome
cause I treasure my own company.

I guess you could say I'm a loner,
a cowboy outlaw tough and proud.
I could have lots of friends if I want to
but then I wouldn't stand out from the crowd.
Some folks say that I'm egotistical.
Hell, I don't even know what that means.
I guess it has something to do with the way that I
fill out my skin tight blue jeans.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way,
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
We're doing the best that we can

Big thread... I allmsot got 1/4 by reading it all and nearly half by not reading the lyrics... (I'll finnish it some other day). I think that all lyrics is much better if you have the music too. And it seems I'm the only one who havn't heard of all the bands mentioned, whitch I just take as a conferm of my tense that I know too little about too much .
And another thing before I post some lyrics: it seems like there is a lot of pepole that's goth (or at least listens to gothic music. Oh hi Lucretia ) and basicly the only things I know about goth is:
1/ Cure isn't Goth. I listen to Cure, so I know what they sound like.
2/ Sisters of Mercy is supposed to be just as Goth as possible. I haven't herd a single Sisters of Mercy song. Ever.
3/ It seems to be the kind of music that fits my personality.
Point three is the reason I whonder: What does Gothic music sound like? What bands? Any tips of records for newbies? Point 1 and 2 is just there to help you in make yourself understanded. And now some lyrics ('cos that's what tis post is all about, isn't it ?)

Ugly by Smashing Pumpkins (not the most common Pumpkinssong since it was one of the last songs to be sorted away from Mellon Collie and the Infinitive Sadness (whitch I don't own). My brother has got the song on tape. Really bad quality (on the tape that is) but the lyrics is awsome).

I don't look in the mirror
I don't like what I see staring back at me
Everything is clearer
I'll never see what you see
It's not me
So beautiful and free
I'll never be what you need
I can't help it at all
I was born so beautiful
But now I'm ugly

And I rot in my skin
As a piece of me dies everyday
I know I'm nothing
I know there's nothing I can say
To change
The judgement in their ways
I'll never be what you need
I can't help it at all
My love was so beautiful
But now I'm ugly
Yeah...

I'm good enough, but I don't care
I'm good enough, but I'm not there
I'm good enough, but I don't care
The sun is out, but I'm not there

(I can go anywhere) I'm good enough, but I don't care (...somewhere)
(I can go anywhere) The sun is out, but I'm not there (...somewhere)
(I can go anywhere) I'm good enough (...somewhere)
(I can go anywhere) I'm good enough (...somewhere)

I don't look in the mirror
I don't like what I see staring back at me
Everything is clearer
I'll never see what you see
And I rot in my skin
As a piece of me dies everyday
I know I'm nothing
Because I'm ugly

I'll save the rest of my lyrics for some other time. And those includes a Swedish song so.. hang on out there .

@ Ubereil Hiya to you too!
I think I will skip the part of what Goth is and what it is not. It is a huge conversation.
Lets go to the tips thing. You can listen to some bands I have mentioned in here. It is a start if you are interested.
Soon I will post you a list of bands to have an idea.
Oh and Cure does not have to be goth -at least for me- to listen to them.
See you soon.

wow, Luc! how did u do it? it's as if u read my mind. i was thinking of putting that lyric on the thread but later on i forgot.

i love that song! thanks!

I was thinkong of posting it too before I read the through the thread.
And I didn't ask about what is goth and what is not goth (I think...) I asked about what goth sounds like. I'm whaiting for that bandlist though since I don't whant toread through the whole thread again (call me lazy if you like. I prefear smart though ).
And some lyrics. What to post now? Ah:

The Same Deep Whater as You-(yet another) Cure (song )

Kiss me goodbye pushing out before I sleep
Can't you see i try
Swimming the same deep water as you is hard
"The shallow drowned lose less than we" you breathe
The strangest twist upon your lips
"And we shall be together..."

"Kiss me goodbye bow your head and join with me"
And face pushed deep
Reflections meet
The strangest twist upon your lips
And dissapear the ripples clear and laughing break
Against your feet
And laughing break the mirror sweet
"So we shall be together..."

"Kiss me goodbye" pushing out before I sleep
It's lower now and slower now
The strangest twist upon your lips
But I don't see and I dont feel
But tightly hold up silently my hands
Before my fading eyes and in my eyes your smile
The very last thing before I go...
The very last thing before I go...
The very last thing before I go...

I will kiss you
I will kiss you
I will kiss you forever on nights like this I will kiss you
I will kiss you
and we shall be together...

It's just huge when you've got the music... I've posted two Disintegration-lyrics so far...

Since I have nothing better to do I can find the lyrics and then translate them (poorly) of that Swedish song I was tlking about. So:

And as a matter of fact it was allready translated

So:

No one can be more than that by Bob Hund

we've never said that you should go there, have we?
We've never done anything mean on puropse, have we?

You can call me an idiot
I have nothing against it
I am an idot
No one can be more than...

If you dare to be scared then I'll get down on my knees
If you dare to be scared then I'll get down on my knees, if you ask me

We've never said that you're ugly, have we?
We've always sent a postcard for christmas, haven't we?
You can call me an idiot
I have nothing against it
I am an idot
No one can be more than that

If you dare to be scared then I'll get down on my knees
If you dare to be scared then I'll get down on my knees, if you ask me

Weird or deep? I think it's a little of both . Great song though.

Um... I do not know how to describe how Goth sounds. Really. For me sounds strong, romantic, passionate and... strange sometimes. Mysterious. But if you ask some other people they will tell you that sounds depressing. I guess it is because music is something very personal and it has to do with your own taste and preferances. So if you want to have an idea you have to listen to some of that kind and make your own mind.

So here is a list of some groups you might want to listen to and have an idea.

-Suspiria - Drama (This is what I listen to at the moment). Drama is a very nice album indeed.
- Sisters of Mercy - Floodland, First and Last and Always, Reptile House (you have to listen to them I swear. All those records).
- Bauhaus - In the flat field
-Christian Death - Jesus points the bone at you, Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ, Only theatre of Pain, Catastrophie ballet.
- Garden of Delight
- Joy Divison (this is more dark wave than gothic).
- Sopor Aeternus (This is one of my most fav.)
- Fun House (those people are Scandinavian and you will find them very interesting. I enjoy very much their work).
- Star Industry (And those are Belgians. Go Belgium go!)
- Corpus Delicty
- Rosetta Stone
- Nosferatu
- Paralised Age
- Elusive
- The Mission
- Sad Lovers and Giants
- Children On Stun
- March Violets
- Stoa
- Razed In Black
- Big Electric Cat
- Fields of the Nephilim

Well I think this should do for a start. I hope you like and enjoy them.

Thank YOU Lucretia. Now I have records to buy for the next couple of years... (If I find them that is ). And since it's a lyric page... What now? Oh yes

Siamese Twins by the Cure (from The strange lyrics album aka Pornography. You can find some of the most unlogical lyrics I've ever heard on this album. You don't really know what any of the songs is really about.)

I chose an eternity of this
Like falling angels
The world disappeared
Laughing into the fire
Is it always like this?
Flesh and blood and the first kiss
The first colours
The first kiss

We writhed under a red light
Voodoo smile Siamese twins
A girl at the window looks at me for an hour
Then everything falls apart
Broken inside me
It falls apart

The walls and the ceiling move in time
Push a blade into my hands
Slowly up the stairs
And into the room
Is it always like this?

Dancing in my pocket
Worms eat my skin
She glows and grows
With arms outstretched
Her legs around me
In the morning I cried

Leave me to die
You won't remember my voice
I walked away and grew old (what does this sentece do here?)
You never talk
We never smile
I scream You're nothing
I don't need you any more
You're nothing
It fades and spins
Fades and spins

Sing out loud
We all die
Laughing into the fire
Is it always like this?
Is it always like this?
Is it always like this?

And another example of the Pornography lyrics:

A Strange Day by the Cure

Give me your eyes that I might see
The blind man kissing my hands (Those two sentenses... Beutifull.)
The sun is humming my head turns to dust
As he plays on his knees
As he plays on his knees

And the sand and the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day

And I laugh as I drift in the wind
Blind dancing on a beach of stone
Cherish the faces as they wait for the end
A sudden hush across the water
And we're here again

And the sand and the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day

My head falls backs and the walls crash down
And the sky and the impossible explode
Held for one moment I remember a song
An impression of sound
Then everything is gone
Forever

A strange day

(First impression: How beutifull . Second: But what the [nocando] is Robert Smith talking about? )

Ubereil (on his way up to listen to Pornography. Great album, despite the weird lyrics (or, prehaps, because of))

I thank YOU. And please do not worry, you will find most of the cds I suggested.
IMHO "Pornography" is the MOST beautiful album Cure ever made and I am SO happy that someone posted those lyrics. Those two songs are my most favorite from that album. Thnx so much for posting them. You are my "Siamese Twin" in that matter...
And believe me, I have heard that song at least a thousand times but only the last few years I managed to understand it

For the moment I'm scouting ginza.se, where ypu can buy CD's over the internet. They have really good prices on the records I'm looking at. For Cure-Greatest hits, Sisters of Mercy-First & last & allways and SoM-Floodband you have to pay 337,00 kr (roughly 33,7 euro) parted in 99 kr for the Cure CD (and there is a couple of songs I like and don't have on this album so why spend 300 kr on tho albums when you can spend 99 on one?) 149 for First & last & allways and 79 for Floodband (and that IS sheap. If they weren't an Internetshop it would be like thyey trew it after me while I was leaving. It's that sheap.) Nice prizes. Can't afford it now though since I'm low on cash.
Anywhay since it's a lyricthread...

Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits

A lovestruck romeo sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like:
You and me babe how about it?

Juliet says:
Hey it's romeo you nearly gave me a heart attack
He's underneath the window she's singing hey la my boyfriend's back
You shoudn't come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it?

Juliet the dice were loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded in my heart
And I forget I forget the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong
Juliet?

Come up on different streets they both were streets of shame
Both dirty both mean yes and the dream was just the same
And I dream your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as I was just another one of your deals?

When you can fall for chains of silver
You can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers
And the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say oh Romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above
I'll love you till I die
There's a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?

I can't do the talk like the talk on the tv
And I can't do a love song like the way its meant to be
I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you
And I can't do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat at the bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of Orion
Julie I'd do the stars with you any time

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above
I'll love you till I die
There's a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?

A lovestruck romeo sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it?

Bella Morte - Remorse

He stands in the chill of night
With snow swirling down
Memories lurking in his eyes
Blood is on his hands
She still lives inside of him
She still holds his eyes in thrall
She still softly sings to him
And she still owns his soul

And he will live forever more
The walls of his world crashing down
Alone in the dark
The walls of his world crashing down
Shadows in his mind
The walls of his world crashing down
Sanity has gone

Tears of blood roll down his cheeks
As she cried his name
Trapped he stood and watched her fall
Screaming in the rain
He still hears her crying there
Sees her pictures on the wall
He still sees her lying there
And he still hears her call

Walls of white and silken sheets
Line his padded cell
Far beyond the metal door
Eternity his hall
Well, they did not understand
When he cried out her name
No, they did not understand
Death was the only way

DS= den samme, Swedish for "the same person" i.e if I end my post with Ubereil and then adds a PS, I finnish my PS with DS which in this case means Ubereil again. It's kind of hard to explain, but I hope you understand. And since it's a lyricpost (Just adding lyrics? Nah):

The Walk by the Cure (one of the songs I'll buy Greatest hits for)

I called you after midnight
Then ran until my heart burst
I passed the howling woman
And stood outside your door

We walked around the lake
And woke up in the rain
And everyone turned over
Troubled in their dreams again

Visiting time is over
And so we walk away
And both play dead then cry out loud
Why we always cry this way?

I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything

I called you after midnight
Then ran until my heart burst
I passed the howling woman
And stood outside your door

I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look
Like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything

Ah yes, Bella Morte... Classic.

My turn:

=============================
Placebo - English Summer Rain.

Always stays the same, nothing ever changes,
English summer rain seems to last for ages.
Always stays the same, nothing ever changes,
English summer rain seems to last for ages.

I'm in the basement, you're in the sky,
I'm in the basement baby, drop on by.
I'm in the basement, you're in the sky,
I'm in the basement baby, drop on by.

[...]

Hold your breath and count to ten,
And fall apart and start again,
Hold your breath and count to ten,
Start again, start again...
Hold your breath and count to ten,
And fall apart and start again,
Hold your breath and count to ten,
And start again, and start again,
==================================

It can't be simplier than this, however you have to hear the song to feel it.

@ Death dear Death! Glad to see you!

Ah the next song moves me so much. You can laugh as much as you want but when I listen to that song I shiver. To all the people who fell in love sometime in their life. (Do not mind me. Today I am weird).

Bella Morte - Relics

As our faiths bleeds into day
This feeble dream is born
As dark winter's voice
As silent as the rain
A place is found within
Where hearts are formed of glass
And fragile songs are heard
As mist from ancient times

Everyone will fall again
Everything shall die again

And within the violet rose
Matures to fall in Ash
Our fears, cofirmed, do sleep
To trouble us no more
And in the dimming light
Her eyes do grace my thoughts
As haunting as the sea
As soft as winter's touch

Everyone will fall again
Everything shall die again

Oh, I expected you to post Relics, Lucretia .

A while ago I was buying black clothes and thought of Lucretia. Since my computer recently burned down, I lost your email, Luc, so here I am.

Yes i am still here but i write very few posts. Most of them are in the french section.
IMHO i think that the forum is less fun than it was one year ago.
A lot of people are complaining about Beyond Divinity and it is not fun at all.

Maybe when the Larian will begin to talk about Divinity 2, the things will change. I hope so.

I bought fine black clothes too.
