wow, ubereil, u listen to dire straits too? good for u!
i'm a big fan of the band & i thought i'm an odd one at my age to listen to foggies like them. i think Mea (being an aussie foggy ) listens to them too.
here's also from Dire Straits - Telegraph Road (one of my all-time fav songs)
A long time ago came a man on a track walking thirty miles with a pack on his back and he put down his load where he thought it was the best made a home in the wilderness he built a cabin and a winter store and he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore and the other travellers came riding down the track and they never went further, no, they never went back
then came the churches then came the schools then came the lawyers then came the rules then came the trains and the trucks with their loads and the dirty old track was the telegraph road
Then came the mines - then came the ore then there was the hard times then there was a war telegraph sang a song about the world outside telegraph road got so deep and so wide like a rolling river. . .
And my radio says tonight it's gonna freeze people driving home from the factories there's six lanes of traffic three lanes moving slow. . .
I used to like to go to work but they shut it down I got a right to go to work but there's no work here to be found yes and they say we're gonna have to pay what's owed we're gonna have to reap from some seed that's been sowed and the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles they can always fly away from this rain and this cold you can hear them singing out their telegraph code all the way down the telegraph road
You know I'd sooner forget but I remember those nights when life was just a bet on a race between the lights you had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair now you act a little colder like you don't seem to care but believe in me baby and I'll take you away from out of this darkness and into the day from these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain from the anger that lives on the streets with these names 'cos I've run every red light on memory lane I've seen desperation explode into flames and I don't want to see it again. . .
From all of these signs saying sorry but we're closed all the way down the telegraph road

I always loved "Money for Nothing". Knopfler is one of a kind. I still consider him to be one of the best guitar players ever.

Yup. I listen to Dire Straits too. And Telegraph Road is my favorite Dire Straits song too. But that's not for the lyrics...

Ah Dire Straits! I love Brothers in Arms. The song or the album? Since I forgot to reply to DatD's: Knopfler is one of a kind. I still consider him to be one of the best guitar players ever. I'll do that now. I too think Mark Knopfler (sounds a little German that, don't you think?) is one of the best guitarplayers ever. When he gets going that is, like he did on Telegraph Road. That last solo must be one of the best ever. He didn't get going on Brother in Arms (the album AND the song) though . The album is in my oppinion way to stiff and controlled. A pitty really since some of the songs are just great, like Money for Nothing and Bother in Arms. The Why Worry verision is beutifull, though (this is my brothers favorite Dire Straits song ever acually. When I bought it my brother said: Great, now we have a verision of it that is better than mum's 20-years-old tapeverision recorded from radio! He havn't borrowed it once.). Love those guitars. If you whant good verisions of some Dire Straits songs you could try out On the Night. It's a livealbum with ten songe, includeing Calling Elvis (where Knopfler goes nuts on the guitarr), Walk of Life, Heavy Fuel, Romeo and Juliet (10 minutes long . Great verision, I acually think it beats the oroginal verision. You know, the one where it sounds like Knopfler is playing a banio and not a guitarr), Private Investigations (allso this allmost 10 minutes long, and a better verision than the original.), Your Latest Trick, On Every Street, You and your Friend (the only song I haven't heard the original verision. My mother has got the album on LP but our LP player (don't know how to say it in English, I hope you know what I am referring to) is broken, so I can't listen to it ), Money for Nothing (where Knopfler goes nuts on the guitarr. Great song and verision) and Brother in Arms (where Knopfler goes nuts on the guitarr. Beutifull verision of a great song.) (Small comment, don't you think ). And some lyrics (not feeling down anymore): Heavy Fuel by Dire Straits (sticking to the subject) Last time I was sober, man I felt bad Worst hangover that I ever had It took six hamburgers and scotch all night Nicotine for breakfast just to put me right 'Cos if you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool, you got to run On heavy, heavy fuel Heavy, heavy fuel, heavy, heavy fuel My life makes perfect sense Lust and food and violence Sex and money are my major kicks Get me in a fight I like dirty tricks 'Cos if you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool, you got to run On heavy, heavy fuel Heavy, heavy fuel, heavy, heavy fuel My chick loves a man who's strong The things she'll do to turn me on I love the babes, don't get me wrong Hey, that's why I wrote this song I don't care if my liver is hanging by a thread Don't care if my doctor says I ought to be dead When my ugly big car won't climb this hill I'll write my suicide note on a hundred dollar bill 'Cos if you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool If you wanna run cool, you got to run On heavy, heavy fuel Heavy, heavy fuel, heavy, heavy fuel Ubereil

I meant the whole album, mate. We used to have the vinyl. Funny that you said it: On The Night is the only Dire Straits CD I have. Wait, I think my father had "On Every Street" somewhere. Nuff' said: I am a big fan of Dire Straits.
Lucretia: Since I changed my internet provider (4.0 DSL yeah!), my new email would be deathatthedoorATsympatico.ca (replace AT with @) but I usually check deathatthedoorATgmail.com. Thanks.
I'd post a classic now:
============================= THE CURE---Burn
don't look, don't look the shadows breathe whispering me away from you don't wake at night to watch her sleep you know that you will always sleep this trembling, adored, toussled bird-mad girl
every night i burn every night i call your name every night i burn every night i fall again
don't talk of love the shadows purr murmuring me away from you don't talk of worlds that never were the end is all that's ever true there's nothing you can ever say nothing you can ever do
still every night i burn every night i scream your name every night i burn every night the dream's the same every night i burn waiting for my only friend every night i burn waiting for the world to end
just paint your face the shadows smile slipping me away from you oh it doesn't matter how you hide find you if we're wanting to so slide back down and close your eyes sleep awhile - you must be tired
when every night i burn every night i call your name every night i burn every night i fall again
every night i burn scream the animal screams every night i burn dream the crow black dream
dream the crow black dream
Still every night I burn, every night I scream your name. Every night I burn, Every night the dream's the same.
Every night I burn, screaming the animal scream Every night I burn, dreaming the crow-black dream. yeah, yeah Dreaming the crow-black dream... =============================
Was it posted here before? I think and I hope so, for it is a trully magic song. I confess: I wanted to quote Type O' Negative, but some lyrics sound strange when read.

@ Ubereil I ment the song but I liked the whole album equal. The first song I liked was Money for Nothing but when I listen the whole album I loved Brothers in Arms.
@ Dear Death, Thnx for your mail address. Yes I have posted Burn before. It is one of my most fav. songs from Cure and I loved it the moment I saw the movie (The Crow). It is a magic song indeed. I am very happy you liked it too. Ah there is a place here in Athens called "Dark Sun". It is the one of the only two Gothic clubs in here and when Leo (the DJ) plays the "Burn" song I create total chaos in there. *Luc smiles with a diabolic smile* Ah yes Type O negative... I have thought it too. But imagine what it would happen if I have posted "My girlfirend's girlfriend" in here...
*Luc is very happy talking for music and that DATD is back and dances with joy*

What a coincidence! I thought about My Girlfriend's Girlfriend too!
Listening to Joy Division - Heart and Soul. I'd post that too but Joy Division, far from easy listening, is dark, even for a goth band, so I'll post one of my favorite New Order songs instead.
======================== Blue Monday
How does it feel To treat me like you do When you’ve laid your hands upon me And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken I thought I heard your words Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how do I feel
Those who came before me Lived through their vocations From the past until completion They will turn away no more
And I still find it so hard To say what I need to say But I’m quite sure that you’ll tell me Just how I should feel today
I see a ship in the harbor I can and shall obey But if it wasn’t for your misfortunes I’d be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken And I thought I heard you speak Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how should I feel
Now I stand here waiting
I thought I told you to leave me While I walked down to the beach Tell me how does it feel When your heart grows cold (grows cold, grows cold, grows cold) ========================

wow! didn't know u love dire straits, Death ol' dude! u have good taste in music.
ubereil & death, i'm sure u guys can get the cd's for dire straits in a bargain bin, especially for the older albums (never forget to get the first if u haven't already).
talk about Brothers In Arms, although the sound may be too controlled, it's refreshing im a way that knopfler & the boys are trying something new & it's great. i personally like 'You & Your Latest Trick' best in the album. it's just too cool! very refined.
& as for On Every Street album, i love almost all of the songs in there as they're so so refreshing (paul franklin on lap steel is a blessing). the last song on that album (How Long?) features mark & paul franklin complementing each other & the chemistry is beautiful.
On The Night is great as well, no doubt. but i believe Alchemy is the best live album from the yorkshire boys.
ubereil, i believe mark knopfler played steel front f-hole guitar (just like the one on the cover of Brothers In Arms) for Romeo & Juliet, not banjo. please correct me if i'm wrong.
by the way, has anyone checked out the Cure's latest album? i wonder how good is it since there are quite number of bad reviews of it. well, bad because the reviewers have very high expectations, i think.
here's another one from the Cure, the song that makes me sad everytime i listen to it; there is no if;
Remember the first time I told you I love you It was raining hard and you never heard You sneezed! and I had to say it over "I said 'I love you'" I said...you didn't say a word Just held your hands to my shining eyes And I watched as the rain ran through your fingers Held your hands to my shining eyes and smiled as you kissed me
"If you die," you said, "so do I" you said... And it starts the day you make the sign "Tell me I'm forever yours and you're forever mine Forever mine..." "If you die," you said, "so do I" you said... And it starts the day you cross that line "Swear I will always be yours and you'll always be mine You'll always be mine Always be mine..."
Remember the last time I told you I love you It was warm and safe in a perfect world You yawned and I had tos ay it over "I said 'I love you'" I said...you didn't say a word Just held your hands to your shining eyes And I watched as the tears ran through your fingers Held your hands to your shining eyes and cried
"If you die," you said, "so do I" you said... But it ends the day you see how it is There is no always forever...just this... Just this... "If you die," you said, "so do I" you said But it ends the day you understand There is no if...just and There is no if...
edit: Luc, glad u're around more often now.
@ ubereil & dude o' death -> check out mark knopfler's collaboration with the late chet atkins (one of the best acoustic guitarist ever!) called Neck & Neck.

@ DATD Ah nice choice indeed. Blue Monday that is. I love Joy Division and now that you mentioned it... Yes it is very dark. But on the other hand it is very tender.
Shadowplay - Joy Division
To the centre of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you, To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you, I was moving through the silence without motion, waiting for you, In a room with a window in the corner I found truth.
In the shadowplay, acting out your own death, knowing no more, As the assassins all grouped in four lines, dancing on the floor, And with cold steel, odour on their bodies, made a move to connect, But I could only stare in disbelief as the crowds all left.
I did everything, everything I wanted to, I let them use you for their own ends, To the centre of the city in the night, waiting for you, To the centre of the city in the night, waiting for you.
You can have my absence of faith you can have my everything...

And this is my most fav from Joy
New Dawn Fades - Joy Division
A change of speed, a change of style. A change of scene, with no regrets, A chance to watch, admire the distance, Still occupied, though you forget. Different colours, different shades, Over each mistakes were made. I took the blame. Directionless, so plain to see, A loaded gun won't set you free. So you say.
We'll share a drink and step outside, An angry voice and one who cried, We'll give you everything and more, The strain's too much, can't take much more. Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire, Can't seem to feel it anymore. It was me, waiting for me, Hoping for something more, Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else
You can have my absence of faith you can have my everything...

ubereil, i believe mark knopfler played steel front f-hole guitar (just like the one on the cover of Brothers In Arms) for Romeo & Juliet, not banjo. please correct me if i'm wrong. Yes, he fell for it! Acually I wasn't serious, I just think it sounds a little like a banjo, but for all I know you could be right. I can't imagine I am. Just listened to Show (Cure live). Nice concert. I acually think some of the songs are better than the original (like Open, A Night like this and Lullaby), but at the end there are just too many Wish songs to be good. There's not much wrong with Wish but all that is wrong with it, you notice here, and in much bigger propotions (did I spell that correctly? ). Some lyrics: Open by the Cure (the Show verision comes with an intro specially written for this consert ) I really don't know what I'm doing here I really think I should've gone to bed tonight but... Just one drink and there're some people to meet you And I think that you'll like them I have to say we do and I promise in less than an hour we will honestly go Now why don't I just get you another while you just say hello... You just say hello... Yeah just say hello... So I'm clutching it tight Another glass in my hand and my mouth and the smiles moving up as I stand up too close and too wide and the smiles are too bright and I breathe in too deep and my head's getting light But the air is getting heavier and it's closer and I'm starting to sway and the hands on all my shoulders don't have names and they won't go away so here i go here I go again... Falling into strangers and it's only just eleven And I'm staring like a child until someone slips me heaven And I take it on my knees just like a thousand times before and i get transfixed that fixed And I'm just looking at the floor Just looking at the floor Yeah I look at the floor And I'm starting to laugh like an animal in pain I've got blood on my hands I've got hands in my brain And the first short retch leaves me gasping for more and I stagger over screaming on my way down to the floor And I'm back on my back with the lights and the lies in my eyes And the colour and the music's too loud and my head's all the wrong size so here i go here i go again... Yeah I laugh and I jump and I sing and I laugh and I dance and I laugh and I laugh and I laugh But I can't seem to think where this is who I am Why I'm keeping this going Keep pouring it out Keep pouring it down Keeping it going Keep pouring it down And the way the rain comes down hard that's the way I feel inside... I can't take it anymore This it i've become This is it like i get when my life's going numb I just keep moving my mouth I just keep moving my feet I say I'm loving you to death like I'm losing my breath And all the smiles that I wear And all the games that I play And all the drinks that I mix and I drink until I'm sick And all the faces that I make And all the shapes that I throw And all the people I meet And all the words that I know Makes me sick to the heart oh i feel so tired... And the way the rain comes down hard that's how i fell inside... (it shure is) Next: Just like Heaven by the Cure (for some strange reason my favorite Curesong. I think it's because I heard it for the firt time when I was around ten. Then my brother played it for me, and then he translated the text for me. I didn't hear it for six years but I still knew the major contence of the lyrics, I knew that guitarrsling that I love so much and I still kenw how to play it on a piand(Check out http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/cure/33889/album.jhtml if you whant to hear the first 30 seconds of it)). "Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream" she said "The one that makes me laugh" she said And threw her arms around my neck "Show me how you do it And I promise you I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you" Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face I kissed her head And dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow "Why are you so far away?" she said "Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you That I'm in love with you" You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream Just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must have been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes And found myself alone alone Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Just like heaven Ubereil

Close To The Edge Lyrics
I. The Solid Time Of Change (Anderson/Howe)
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace, And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace, And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar, Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour. And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one. A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun, And take away the plain in which we move, And choose the course you're running.
Down at the edge, round by the corner, Not right away, not right away. Close to the edge, down by a river, Not right away, not right away.
Crossed the line around the changes of the summer, Reaching out to call the color of the sky. Passed around a moment clothed in mornings faster than we see. Getting over all the time I had to worry, Leaving all the changes far from far behind. We relieve the tension only to find out the master's name.
Down at the end, round by the corner. Close to the edge, just by a river. Seasons will pass you by. I get up, I get down. Now that it's all over and done, Now that you find, now that you're whole.
II. Total Mass Retain (Anderson/Squire)
My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love. It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above. I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand. There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we don't understand.
Sad courage claimed the victims standing still for all to see, As armoured movers took approached to overlook the sea. There since the cord, the license, or the reasons we understood will be.
Down at the edge, close by a river. Close to the edge, round by the corner. Close to the end, down by the corner. Down at the edge, round by the river.
Sudden problems shouldn't take away the startled memory. All in all, the journey takes you all the way. As apart from any reality that you've ever seen and known. Guessing problems only to deceive the mention, Passing paths that climb halfway into the void. As we cross from side to side, we hear the total mass retain.
Down at the edge, round by the corner. Close to the end, down by a river. Seasons will pass you by. I get up, I get down.
III. I Get Up, I Get Down (Anderson/Howe)
In her white lace, you could clearly see the lady sadly looking. Saying that she'd take the blame For the crucifixion of her own domain. I get up, I get down, I get up, I get down.
Two million people barely satisfy. Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late. The eyes of honesty can achieve. How many millions do we deceive each day? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.
In charge of who is there in charge of me. Do I look on blindly and say I see the way? The truth is written all along the page. How old will I be before I come of age for you? I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.
IV. Seasons Of Man (Anderson/Howe)
The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes. A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, it seems. And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love. As song and chance develop time, lost social temp'rance rules above. Ah, ah.
Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space, He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race. I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place. On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley, Called to witness cycles only of the past. And we reach all this with movements in between the said remark.
Close to the edge, down by the river. Down at the end, round by the corner. Seasons will pass you by, Now that it's all over and done, Called to the seed, right to the sun. Now that you find, now that you're whole. Seasons will pass you by, I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up.
When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it. --Dilbert cartoon

u're not alone, ubereil. most people got hooked on Cure because of Just Like Heaven. people like me! in fact most artistes & bands that are hooked on the Cure also cover this song. my most fav would be the crazy version done by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. i recall Smashing Pumpkins did a cover of Night Like This.
can anyone recall who else did covers of the Cure & still sound good, though maybe not as good as the original?

I don't know if they sound good but Pumpkins have done covers on Boy's don't cry and Inbetween Days too (acording to a Pumpkins/Swan site). They have done covers on a lot of strange bands (at least compared with Pumpkins. Not that the bands in question or Pumpkins is strange, it's just when you compare them.). Like Ace of Bace (not too proud to say this but they're) from Sweden.

Ah those songs! I got so mad when I heard the cover from D. Junior! Show was a good live but try Concert Ubereil. It sure worth the try. It contains older songs performed live. Generally I do not like the remakes of the Cure songs from other groups. *Luc is mean today*

Bullet ~ Covenant
time is like a bullet from behind I run for cover just like you time is like a liquid in my hands I swim for dry land just like you
time is like a blanket on my face I try to be here just like you time is just a fiction of our minds I will survive and so will you
we are the only ones right now that are celebrating and we are joining hands right now we are the only ones right now that are suffocating we are the dying ones right now
as the water grinds the stone we rise and fall as our ashes turn to dust we shine like stars
kisses on the dancefloor in my past I need some comfort just like you beating like a bass drum time goes by I want the last dance just like you
drowning in the flood of morning light I'm only human just like you do you hear the city waking up I will survive and so will you
we are the ones the only ones we are the ones the dying ones we are the ones the only ones we are the ones and we are joining hands
we are the only ones right now that are celebrating…
as the water grinds the stone…

Hello everyone! Blind Guardian - a power-metal group; many of their songs are about the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. And they also sound much better when they are played, not read..
The Bard's Song: In The Forest
Now You all know The bards and their songs When hours have gone by I'll close my eyes In a world far away We may meet again But now hear my song About the dawn of the night Let's sing the bards' song
Ref.: Tomorrow will take us away Far from home Noone will ever know our names But the bards' songs will remain Tomorrow will take it away The fear of today It will be gone Due to our magic songs
There's only one song Left in my mind Tales of a brave man Who lived far from here Now the bard songs are over And it's time to leave Noone should ask You for the name Of the one Who tells the story
Ref.: Tomorrow will take us away Far from home Noone will ever know our names But the bards' songs will remain Tomorrow all will be known And You're not alone So don't be afraid In the dark and cold 'Cause the bards' songs will remain They all will remain
In my thoughts and in my dreams They're always in my mind These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men And elves Come close Your eyes You can see them, too

Geeze, I haven't post One yet ! Better do it:
One by Metallica
I can’t remember anything Can’t tell if this is true or dream Deep down inside I feel to scream This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me I’m waking up I can not see That there is not much left of me Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please god, wake me
Back in the womb it’s much too real In pumps life that I must feel But can’t look forward to reveal Look to the time when I’ll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me Just like a wartime novelty Tied to machines that make me be Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please god, wake me
Now the world is gone I’m just one Oh god, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please God help me
Darkness imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell
Good lyrics but, most of all an absolutely BRILLINT song.
Übereil
Brain: an apparatus with which we think we think.
Ambrose Bierce
