I could resolve this issue for you, to put it simply, but if you're getting internet back at your home within the next few weeks then you might as well play on the original and get to know the game mechanics abit before upgrading and restarting, if you're anything like the rest of us you'll play the whole game through several (hundred) times before ever considering you've beaten it.

If it doesnt look like you're going to get internet at home and you cant get the file splitter progs to work, pm me via this forum with home address or work address and i'll burn a cd with the patch on it and send it to you. Since a cd only costs about a quid and postage is not much, it'd not set me back a whole lot..course, i'd not burn patches to cd's for everyone. But, its been awhile since i did a "good deed". Offer is there if you need it.

When you buy a pack of blank cds you end up with 9 spare.. lol!! Would just be putting them to good use. Although a 10meg file and 640meg disk isnt exactly good usage..but..

I played the game several times at 1.0029 and was lucky (cautious advance in game play) - but as I said, the 1.0034 is very comfortable IF
you have administrative rights on patch install (Win XP/2000)
you don't have background proggies running during install

I have WinXP and there were 2 "background" apps running when I installed the patch (Zone Alarm Pro and AVG), each with an additional process also running as a service. I had no problem installing the patch, so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe it was something specific to your system configuration?

On a side note, is this dude right here <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/alien.gif" alt="" /> giving us the finger, or is it just me? Just saying.

He's talking about 1.44Mb floppy disks. I remember the good ol' days. All we had was DOS. There was this little prompt with a flashing cursor and that was all you got! Kids would be going "Daddy! Make the game work!". Aaah... those were the days... <clacks false teeth in mouth>

Yeah, I think he is. Or are they index fingers? It's one of those unanswerable questions of the Universe.

Some gamers had problems with getting 1.0034 to work because these precautions were not taken <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> - specially not having read/write access. This patch does not warn if you haven't and then the patch is simply not installed. Some background programs tend to interfere. I always install the way I described = not only cautious gamer but installer also <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

While I appreciate the offer, I assume by use of the word "quid", you are in England, and well I am in the USA, so I think the amount of postage just went up hehe, so thanks anyway.

By the way, been away on business, haven't had a chance to check out the prog yet, I'm sure it will work....thanks for the help everyone.

BattleMage, I assume you don't have a friend who has internet access and a Cd burner, right? In that case, if I were you, I'd go to a Cyber Cafe or whatever you call them, and download the patch and burn it on a CD over there. Surely there must be a place like that around where you live, right? I guess it's all about how much trouble you're willing to go through to get it...

bean's suggestion makes more sense & solution is simpler. USB removable thumb drive is easy to use.
