Nope, the magic barrier skill is in the survivor path - yours is a mage skill. The decision is up to you - I didn't mind the slowdown (memory leak) in Verdistis - but as Bernhard said, some gameplay bugs are a bother if you don't know how to react correctly. And version 1.0034 allows more quick save slots.
