Defrag? Check drivers? what vid card you got? I've just run the entire game in 1.33a and never got a black map for screwed graphic anywhere. Got a few CTDs, caused i think buy trying to cast Fix armour skill on the bad guys, then opening my spell book and trying to cast a new spell.. ctd..
This sounds like a bad install, more then game itself messing up, you got any memory checking applications running? or anything running when installing or patching?
Which reminds me...I'll start a new post....link is bad..
