since gia's filipino (slap me if i'm wrong), u should know tagalog's the one.

kiya, i wouldn't say tagalog is a south malaysian dialect. rather it's one of many malay dialects around the south east asian region. indonesia has a lot more dialects. malaysia has quite a few. thailand also has a few. malaysian means it pertains to the country malaysia. malay means the language or pertaining to the malay language. by the way, malaysia is at the south of philipines, not the other way round. malay borrows many words from the indian language/dialects, hence hindi, sanskrit, .... . do u know babirusa (animal) is actually a malay word? babi=pig, rusa=deer. amok or amuck also comes from malay language. among a few things the british empire took from its colonies.

in the past(way way back & i forgot about the year), malay language was the official trade language & all traders(chinese, indian, mid-east, western) know malay. it was the lingua franca in those days.

still, it doesn't mean i can understand what gia typed. our dialects have evolved so much.

gia, wo pu' da how. che pien hen zhe. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />
