I agree with the "just because they think it sounds cool" theory.. For instance, in Japan there is (or was) a bank somewhere called "My Lovely Rabbit". Kinda goofy when you're trying to figure out the katakana and realize it has to be that, even though no sane person would use that name for a financial institute <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
