Stormy, this is impressive, indeed. Thanks for the great work

I didn't know about the possibility of sending mortality to go check the shadows.

You are absolutely right Stormy writing about several answers. There are at least two points of view on this matter.Mortality's -nothing- and TNO's regret or even -beleif-. There are more, in PST, TNO was asking many people that question. How many answers has he got, I do not remember.

Here is fragment from torment story Scroll down here for complete Planescape: Torment Story by Rhys Hess

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"If there is anything I have learned in my travels across the Planes, it is that many things may change the nature of a man. Whether regret, or love, or revenge or fear -whatever you *believe* can change the nature of a man, can."

THEN YOU LEARNED A FALSE LESSON, BROKEN ONE.

"Have I? I've seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil's hag heart half-circle. This entire Fortress has been constructed from belief. Belief damned a woman, whose heart clung to the hope that another loved her when he did not. Once, it made a man seek immortality and achieve it. And it has made a posturing spirit think it is something more than a part of me."

YOUR DEFIANCE WILL HURT YOU MORE THAN ANY WOUND IN THIS PLACE. BELIEF CANNOT CHANGE THE NATURE OF A MAN.

"I think it can. I think belief could even unmake me, if I believed it *enough.*"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can you answer this question? Which point of view is closer to you? They say there is a core in every man, which is his nature, it never changes. Hmm, here we come to the question of what is the nature then? Or can the core change? So many questions unanswered, so many more stories untold. Man, beleiving in regret understands and regrets the crimes he has committed and therefore goes to the war. He beleives into -beleif- and still goes to war even knowing he is no more immortal.

Actually, he is immortal again - in a sense. Since he is again mortal, he has to repent for his sins and the years he's lived as an immortal - the years he cheated Death out of, in other words. So he 'dies' and as Death's Advocate says, he is reborn to live eternally in the plane that he has earned. The first incarnation said not even regret or an eternity of repentance could make good the evils he had committed - and so the Nameless One has to fight in the Blood War for all eternity. In Christian terms; he is sentenced to an eternity in Hell. Hell, where Satan himself belches fire, and little demons break wind day and night! Where the behind is never free of the prickly little forks and the softest part of the nether regions are everyone's favourite delicacy! Where vicious roots grow from the nose and the air is pungent with the air of roasted backsides!

And as Grace says: "eternity is a long time, but when it's over, you will see me again."

The thing about Adahn was that the more times you replied you were "Uhm... Adahn.", the greater the chance became that by your imagination, Adahn acually came into existence. When you replied you were Adahn enough times, he would actually appear in the Smoldering Corpse Bar and he gave you some items (which you also made up), after which he disappeared when you told him he was but a figment of your imagination.

By the way, Egin, my personal answer: *Nothing* can change the nature of a man.

The only difference from Christian terms is that it was his own choice. He regrets the crimes he has committed, he started to regret in his last incarnation already. Remember unlocking that puzzle where he united with his previous incarnations (was it prhere in the brothel). So, in other words he sentenced himself into eternity in Blood War (or Hell). I donno though, if he will be able or even permitted to leave the war one day when eternity of his payback is over. Time and fate are his punishers and there is a place on the planes reserved for ones such as him.

Mathematically, as the time goes further or reaches towards eternity, his stay at that war reaches towards 0, but never gets to it.

Beleiving FFG words this can be over one day, but this can be only hope of the heart in love and in hope. She will look for him everywhere and who knows if she will find him.

As for Adahn, I have never succeeded in bringing him. You mentioned high Wisdom was needed to make it possible.

You didn't need high WIS - you just needed to be chaotic enough to tell people you are Adahn every time. You need high WIS and INT to get the most out of the encounter with Adahn.

I have found the arm. It is TNOs arm and if you bring it to Fell, he will mention about four companions once travelled with you. Four companions, who are bound to the Nameless One with their own torments. There is symbol of torment on your arm.

(One unloved who loves one who does not love.) - Dejonarra. Practical incarnation used her to escape Fortress of Regrets first time (it claimed her life, the Broken One didn't care, she knew it).

(One who does not see what others see and sees what others do not.) - Blind archer Xachariah - he had come to *know* a different sight. In *knowing* this, he had become strong. Yet he did not *know* his own strength."

You can find him in a mortuary.

(One who is familiar and bound with duty.) - Morte
Morte- "I begged to be freed from the Pillar of Skulls, swearing that I'd follow you, sharing my knowledge until your final days... I just didn't realize how long that'd be until after you'd already torn me free." "But after a couple hundred years, I realized it was *more* than that... something deeper. More than just a debt of gratitude, too, though that sure as the hells had something to do with it. I just felt drawn, *connected* to you, somehow. Maybe it's all your suffering, chief... your torment. I don't know. Maybe I likened it to my own, when I was in that pillar."

(One who is a slave and his chains are words.) - Dak'kon, after TNO saved his life, Dak'kon swered to serve him.

Dak'kon- "*Know* that this one owed you a service. In owing this to you, it became as slavery."
Unlock the eights circle of Zenthrimon and you will know how to release him.

Nuthin' but truth, Egin!

Four souls linked to the Nameless One by their torment (same as your party members, every one of them has a secret):

Dak'kon and Morte are slaves (and Morte used to be a liar too)

Annah is a tiefling (and in love with the Nameless One, for those who didn't know - if you followed Grace's 'romance' instead)

Grace is tormented by her loss of ancestors and by being a fiend

Nordom is tormented because he is no longer a true Modron

Vhailor is tormented because the Practical Incarnation walled him in alive and because he wants to punish him (you find that out if you keep him close while talking to the Pillar of Skulls, because he 'll be sure it is you, and attack you - you can only stop him by saying you yourself are searching for *PUNISHMENT* to achieve *PERFECTION*)

And Ignus, well, that's pretty obvious, no?

Yes, Stormy all of them were suffering. I will write what Ravel Puzzlewell have sayd about them.

"And these torments... what are these torments you speak of?"

"A lodestone pulls iron to it... and so do you, my precious half-man, but it is not iron, but tormented souls. As others suffer, they are drawn to you, and your path becomes theirs." She made a sweeping gesture. "Do you not see them in the eyes of those that have traveled here with you?"

"Do *you* wish to explain, gith?" Ravel threw a burning glance at Dak'kon, tempered with a fanged smile. "Vows may prove tighter than any chain, no? The manacles of a race once enslaved, now a slave again?"

"The cog-box..." Ravel's gaze drifted to Nordom. "Once it knew only *suffering's* definition, but now it feels its sting. There is no room for '2' in the world of 1's and 0's, no place for 'mayhap' in a house of trues and falses, and no 'green with envy' in a black and white world. When it discovers how the planes turn, when it discovers the TRUTH behind loyalty and ill-logic, more torments will it know..."

"The chattering skull..." Ravel didn't bother to even look at Morte, as if he was beneath her notice. "Are the quips enough of a shield for what lies buried inside your brain-box, hmmm? Why speak truths when lies suffice?"

"The Abyssal temptress..." Ravel sneered, her yellowed fangs piercing her purpled lips as she squinted at Fall-From-Grace. "A skin so fair, lips so rich, eyes that might cause you to forget Ravel herself... and yet she suffers, more than any other. When one turns on their nature, many are the torments that arise from such a betrayal."

And Annah a girl grown tired of cruelties and torments.

I seem to recall Ravel saying some things like: "And the fiendling, the fiery one. Shall I tell him why you are so tormented?"

And then Annah turns all red, because her secret is that she's in love with TNO. You can ask her what her torment was later, and she'll explain.

Right Stormy.

I have got my game back from my friend today. Installed it 20min ago. Previous time I played as a fighter who was dualclassed into mage later. Now, I will start as pure mage with int and wiz maxed Let's see if this works.

BTW Any suggestions on where can I get that patch? Interplay has a dead link.

Wow! There are times in my life when I feel like such a loser! This is one of them. I started reading this thread about 10 minutes ago and the more I read, the more I wanted the game. So I did a quick online search and saw the game's cover - I already have this game!! Yep, it's still in its original package. A friend of mine got it for me as a b-day present last year and I never got around to playing it.

Well, it's a blustery, frigid, wintry Saturday night and I don't have plans, so...., guess what I'll be doing!?! (No! Not that - it's still illegal) (lol)

Correct answer: Curling up with a good RPG! I had to stop myself from reading more than the first 5-7 messages because I didn't want to ruin any 'surprises' that surely await. *g*

Ahh yes, how could I forget the sorcerer's place. Check it out for other fun things as well.

By the way Faralas, install the game, play it and live it! If you have any questions we'll be here. Spick has completed the game too, so with spick, Egin and myself, there's three people here to go to for answers. With any luck we can make this thread the longest on the forums

Thanks for your input, spick and Storm. I'm one of those players who actually enjoys reading a lot of text so for me, the more, the merrier. I suppose I'm partial to text-based games because I'm a huge fan of Interactive Fiction. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy point and click aspects of CRPGs, but I think I'm going to like Torment because it contains a bit of both elements.

I didn't get very far in the game last night (I'm still stuck in the mortuary) but that's typical for me when I start playing a new game. If I could find the game manual, I'd be in good shape. Been looking for it, but haven't found it yet. It will turn up. I save everything.

And thanks, spick, for the link. At first glance, it looks like a terrific site. Storm, thanks for the offer of help. I may just need it.

*Raises tankard of ale* Well, here's to another day of plundering, slaying and chaos!

Hello Faralas, just make sure you do install the latest patch, and there is also an update made by the people at Sorcerers which puts a quest or two back in that Black Isle left out of the finished article.

Thanks! I went to Sorcerer's and found the patches. I'm going to install them in a few minutes.

I'm way behind on setting up my home network. Bought a wireless router a few months ago (yes, I said months! arrgh! (lol)) and just got a Tungsten. The plan for today was to hook up the network and configure the PDA. But I'm getting sidetracked (as usual!). Well, it's Sunday - no need to rush around.

I appreciate your help. You guys are terrific!

Have a posilutely beautimous day.
