@Lucretia, jvb : I'd suggest that you write you stories down in your own language first, and translate or rewite it later into English. That's what I do.
I personally believe I would find it awful, to have a story not properly written down, because I could not use the proper words.
What I mean is, that I have problems expressing feelings and subtle chances ... they are so delicate I need my own language to express them. Otherwise , I believe, I could and would spoil my story.
I really appreciate knowing a good story is written with one's own language - and that means every every strength in language is maxed out - instead of having a good story presented in a rather weak way.
To me, it's like having the picture of a beatiful flower in mind, but not having good tools to paint it (that's why I'm so awfully sorry that I cannot paint).
I give you an example :
In Love with a Jedi - In Liebe mit einer Jedi - Story with Jedi Shaak Ti (German / English)I had written this story in German irst (it's still extraordinary to me) , and translated it later into English. I was quite surprised as people told me, the translation was good. I hadn't expected this.
Before you read that story, I recommend reading this
www.starwars.com Databank entry :
Databank : Shaak TiIn English, I had written a small
Essay on the Physiognomy of the Togruta, and that's also about Shaak Ti.
The first story I had translated was
Bib Fortuna's End , also in the Star Wars Universe.
