The Magic Staff of Moses.

This is an idea for Divinity II as it might be too late for Rift Runner.

At an advanced level mage may find the ancient Staff of Moses with which he may perform spells with a left click or a right click.

The right click is that of a special move that depends on terrain type:

The Earthquake Miracle:
So, if the mage hits the ground an earthquake would split the ground and keep the enemy of hand-to-hand combat ability at pace so that the mage may kill them at a distance while dodging ranged trajectories.

Splitting the waters Miracle:
If too many enemies followed the mage while he was cornered by deep water, he may right-click the water to split it temporarily so that he may cross it and the water should seal the land bridge immediately after he crosses the barrier killing all the enemies who dare to follow him any further.

Summoning Satan The Serpent and his minions:
Apart from the two miracles of right clicking, when left clicking when equipped with the Staff of Moses, the mage throws the staff theatrically and Satan is summoned in the form of the ancient serpent (a huge dark green-blue reptile) along with six mighty serpents of lesser size and might, this small army may inflict poison and spiritual damage but Satan has the ability to swallow all smaller creatures also and the serpent’s life and manna increases. When the mage wishes to move on, we left-click again and the avatar picks the tail of the serpent and it is morphed to a staff once more.

This left-click attack using Satan and his minions should not work properly against paladins and priests who are immune to the devil. It works perfectly on Orcs and Imps and all summoned creatures of any sort, like skeletons and zombies.

Kindest regards.

Strange, I'm not familiar with the passage in which Moses summons Satan. Perhaps you can tell me the chapter and verse to look for?

well, what i know of the serpents is that moses's half-brother, aaron was the dude who threw his staff on the ground & God made it turn into a serpent. this is a display to show their oppressors that God is real & not to be trifled with. of course, the oppressors have their mage do the same trick, which led to Moses's God giving the evil dudes plague.

if i'm wrong, please correct me.

hehe,
why not even use "the burning bush of terror"?
or te "two huge stonetablets of commitments" wich come very hard if been hit with it

or the everlasting basket of fish & bread? kill your enemy with infinite fish

but @DAD you give a good example how future game could look like.
Create special effects for a specific unique weopon.
and i mean EFFECTS not just some red-blue glow on it.

I like the idea. But the staff should also unleash the 7 plagues that terrorised egypt

@Dad: I like the idea of such a special weapon, but I would not use a "weapon" that is lend from the bible.

Two reasons:
1) it could prove hard to combine the Divinity universe with "our?" Religion.
2) it might hurt the feelings of reliogious persons and therefor could cause trouble.

Heaven and hell are
interesting places.
That spell sounds cool. After however many questing hours it'd be such a suprise find. It would have to be hella powerful, as it is connected wih God. I doubt they'd actually put that in their game, because like someone said the Div world already has its own religous lore. Then again, who cares about how religiously correct a spell or weapon is.
How about the idea of certain weapons having unique abilities.
That would be better than all weapons merely having different stats.
Some RPGs have that, I can think of a few japanese ones that do, a sword or ring..hell, most of them do.
But for a D&D style RPG, unheard of..
From the simple to the huge..a dagger that can chop bark off a tree and imbue it with healing properties..
or a rusty old staff that suprisingly summons satan..

I rather agree with bernhard, and would not want to see a Biblical relic turning up in the Divinity Universe. But perhaps there is an artifact of power from the early days of Duke Hark Ferol that might be rediscovered...?

That's a good idea. The staff has seven charges, each unique and devistating.

I also agree that the bible should remain out of the game, purely because it's a different story. Divine Divinity has different gods and religons. It is a good idea for a weapon though, and could easily be adapted. Unique relics would be great!

I must agree that the bibcle style of such a magic item should not be used, but the idea of the kind of item is great.

You are correct of course concerning the biblical account.
Long time ago there was an Egyptian Movie called “Solomon’s Ring” and the man who found the ring could summon a genie that fulfils almost all his wishes except life death and love. That film was originally in Arabic but it was translated into French, Italian and English for a Contest in Can.

What I am saying is that it is not true that films based on an item related to a Koran Sacred figure (Prophet) should be offensive even to Islamic fanatics.

If I gave a title to my post as “ The Staff of Janggut “ no one ever would have figured out what that artefact could do. It is because I gave it its true name that you could figure out what I was talking about.

The Larian Studios have both choices valid and they could call it the Staff of the Divine One or the Staff of Mostachiles or even the Staff of DAD, but that is not the issue as the issue is implementing a magical wand that can cause an earthquake (effect) and can split the waters (effect).
The seven plagues are already implemented and they are not new at all.
The spell of summoning a swarm of insects (for example) had been implemented in several games already.

On the other hand, wouldn’t a religious person want to know how it feels to split the waters by command?
No offence at all there because a game is what a game is and it is virtual environment in which you play a role.
What is so offensive about playing the role of Moses or Jesus after you have played the role of GOD himself?

Come on people, it is all related to intentions and quality. If the game is not ridiculing the Biblical accounts and respecting the freedom of belief then where would offence come from?

What if in the real life the Staff of Moses was really found!
It would be just like any stick in fact and most probably useless.
The magic was in the promise of course because God was supporting his man.
In our games we play we do not pray.

There's nothing rediculous about it at all. I think that could be quite fun. So long as it suits the game. I feel that incorporating the Bible or biblical events in Divine Divinity would be out of place as the game already has it's own set of gods and beliefs and history. In something like Lionheart, which is definately based on this reality, an artifact like that could be an incredible find!

There are a number of games where praying is needed. Older RPGs like Nethack had alters where you could pray for divine intervention. Success was based on your alignment and reigious contributions. I recently started playing Spells of Gold where you can pray to up to five gods who grant you grace based on their opinion of you. Grace is essentially spell-class specific mana. You can request blessings, spending your grace for a number of benefits. The more you contribute to a temple, the more grace you can acquire and "store". Gods also favour loyalty to them alone, although this isn't a prerequisite.

Pellaeon. But I don't remember his first name.

By the way, I also don't like references to certain religions very much , just because they are not accessible - in terms of Information - to members of other religions. Just an example : What would you do if you'd get a reference to Hinduism in a game ? As a member of the Christian religion you wouldn't even notice, I think.

It probably depends on how famous the story is. Neon Genesis: Evangellion is based around Hebrew religion. That series is incredably popular in Japan and America and undoubtedly other countries even though the percentage of people in those countries that follow Hebrew religion is probably a lot less than other religions. A lot of the references are lost, be because of the incredable story telling, it doesn't matter. Knowledge of the Hebrew religion (I'm really sorry, but I don't know what the common name for it is.) is not essential, although it does expand the story for those who do know it.

After watching The Matrix: Revolutions, I looked up the little Indian girl's name, Sati, on the 'Net to see what significance it had. It's from Indian religion, which I know next to nothing about, and after reading the description, it fits very well into the movies. They're extra puzzles for those who want them.

There is an RPG in creation that uses the bible as a background (or there used to be one in creation, I'm not sure abotu the status). Anyway, from it I've learned if you want heated debates and people tearing a game down before even a first screenshot is released then you have to go for biblical content. There are enough people who will go for the kill over such a thing.

Besides that, how is a system where there are no classes to determine you are a mage in order fro you to get the staff?
