In contrast to Cauldron, Larian Studios is not funded by UBISoft (as they were by CDV). They develop Riftrunner on their own funds and use publishers to take care of the distribution in their respective countries. This brings forth a different relationship. Larian Studios do not transfer the rights of the game over to the publisher. It's their game to do with what they want. The benefits are theirs, but then again, so are the risks.
I assume they have a better control and knowledge now of how many games are being shipped in the various countries, because of this different setup.
