what about unarmed? i know raze beat the demon of lies to death unarmed with a bit of rejuvenation potions(200+) but skills involving unarmed combat will be very nice.

also to make alchemy skills more relevant & useful, why not a chemist-like skills that can make concoctions that have poison/explosive/corrosive/paralysing damage?

"beat the demon of lies to death unarmed with a bit of rejuvenation potions(200+)"

hey! It was 106 minor rejuvenation potions.

I played a game a long time ago where one of the character classes was a ninja or monk, who actually received a combat penalty if they used a weapon. They started off a little weak, but with the right training could do more damage unarmed than the warrior and paladin type classes.

some nice animation with a kick? like a fire punch or something.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

Thats just downright embarassing.

I think that would make the chemist skill more a lot better than it was in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />.
Why shouldn't a chemist be able to make a bomb. Or be able to simply put some poison in a spray bottle.

It could be used on NPCs...they'd hand over goodies after too much tickling!
With a negative Rep consequence of course.
Or, a secret..: use it in a certain quest for much different outcome!

This sounds very much like Hellfire, the expansion for the first Diablo. It introduced two new characters, one of them a monk. He only fought hand to hand and he was pretty tough.

Putting a Monk type class would be totaly awesome, I played one In Never Winter Night's and the guy did damage beyond any fighter could imagine doing.. Given a Regen Skill and they are the ultimate fighting machine!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

Monks are in general overpowered in D&D CRPG games. In <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> there are however no facilities for unarmed combat, like unarmed combat skills.

Bugger! Divine Divnity 2 perhaps?

Are there any weapons we can invent that haven't been considered before? After all, with a combination of metal, wood, leather and magic, what can't be created? Perhaps a whip/flail/rubber band weapon could be designed?

Think of a weapon that looks like a flail with a blade instead of a ball. There's a wooden, leather-padded handle, a chain of small balls connected by magical energy, and a dagger blade on the end. The weapon is used similar to a fishing rod with the attcker throwing the blade towards the enemy while holding the handle. The magical bindings stretch and after a point, they pull the blade (safely) back to the attacker. The damage would be fairly average, of dagger quality in it's variety of grades, but the reach of the weapon would be greater than that of a haliberd. Perhaps the Survivor's dagger skills (Assassin's Kiss, etc.) could apply to it as well.

Yeeee this weapon sounds good, i want to try it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> Or maybe there coud be some rifles or pistols like in Arcanum - there was a magic and a technology and it was cool(looked strange) at 1st do some shoot then some magic. Shoting weapon in mages hands <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Maybe Americans can use some magic agaisnt their enemyies <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I think that rifles would only work if they were solely made for enemies directly under the big-bad, but you could collect them when you raided their stronghold. Because of their great damage and ease of use, they might want to make the weapons a little less effective. Perhaps some of the pros and cons:
  • Lowered accuracy. (They're in early stages of development.)
  • Limited ammunition.
  • Cannot be repaired; the technology is too alien.
  • Individual Weapon Expertise skill – Rifle Expertise.
  • Low Strength requirements, no Dexterity requirements.
  • Great damage.
  • Average reload rate, between crossbow and bow.

You'd want to be very careful adding weapons like that to a medieval game. While they make an interesting cross-over, they can be received very badly by players, especially if it is unexpected. Perhaps another Archanum is needed?

Recently I suggested in a Forum to use more names of african and southamerican weapons in a game, because I felt there are none of these mentioned in games ever, and people said I had called them racists, because I had expressed they never used such names. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

That's exactly the point ! : I don't know of any. Neither do the developers.

I should go into a museum and ask, or buy books.

But I just theorized that there should / must be some, just because any culture has its own special things.

mysteek;
Search Google for 'Hellfire Diablo'. It doesn't seem to be listed on Sierra's web site.

No, I didn't use any spells, just my fists.

Alrik;
I saw a documentary awhile ago on a very old African martial art. One of the weapons was like a whip with two flexible blades on the end, favoured by female practitioners because it could be worn as a belt for easy access and concealment. Apparently when used properly, it could take a head off in one swing. I forget the name of it, though, so if you comment on this fact you are obviously implying I am a racist. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

This topic on another forum could provide some information for a detailed search. I tried a quick search in Google, but didn't immediately find much in terms of unique weapon pictures or descriptions.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/alien.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" /> Hello, I am back after a month illness...or so... If I would be the one to propose sth else here, one look at aforementioned Throne of Darkness, also by Sierra, might just give a clue. On the other hand, "classic" weaponry and armoury was not the case for DD universe- maybe because it is not geographically/culturally linked to Europe ancient/medieval times. If though it will be the case- why not? we've seen exotic weapons/armor like athagan (correct name: yatagan, invented first by Persians) and pavise (first used by knights in medieval times, though some research shows romans used that kind of tower shield -seen in Gladiator) in Diablo2:LOD. But this only concerned somehow different stats/dc5 pictures, not the weapon function as such. Would be nice to see the air-propelled weapons like darts etc.,or even the muskets(fiery weapons seem to be neglected by RPG makers- why is it so? they use weapons names from the chinese/japanese medieval times, like yari, but don't use the other weapons, that co-existed). In general, if the weaponry/armoury will only concern the change of the lookout and stats, but not the real function of the weapons, it is not worth a while. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" />

You will have a gun on you; but are not to use it under any circumstances- it's only to strengthen your authority. (EH)

Yeah. I've seen the box-set with Diablo and Hellfire boxed together. I haven't seen it separately since it was released though.

i'd actually like to see differences when you equip weapons. it gets kinda repetitive if you see the same form for a type of weapon you've equipped. do this to other equipment as well... though there are minor changes if you look closely at stuff you equip in divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> hope they'll make more differences... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

another thought, more ranged weapons... yeah.. boomerangs and shuriken would be great. as well as other types... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" />

maybe they could add samurai swords and nunchakus. i like samurai swords... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

How will they incorporate nunchakus into the world of divinity? But, I agree, that when you equip the item there should be it's animation, not just something common.
And there could be more different weapons - Skythes, hammers, morning stars? Weapons and armor could have incrustations, or even some runes engraved. It will make them look impressive. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

DD was sprite based so Larian didn't do different animations for each weapon/armour/headgear because otherwise, the game would've taken MUCH more space. There are no such limitations in 3d.

This reminds me of those old Bruce Lee and martial arts movies: drunken fist, anyone? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Basically, the monk gets drunk and power ups and kicks the other dude's butt! It's just real fun doing that! Imagine, your enemy's wondering: "Is this guy a loon or something? Why's he got so many bottles of wine and whiskey strapped to his mule?"

Then... he looks in shock as the monk gulps down 8 bottles of wine at one go and rushes towards him.

Oh and may I also add that the monk's fighting bare-handed? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
