I´m not sur but isn´t an aphorism something like a short sentences which is somehow funny or... (here my english becomes too bad) *switches to german* schlagkräftig *back to english* ? I think it´s used in literature (prosa).
Oh! you just cahnged your hint to personification. Personification I always mix up with allegorie. It is something very similar though.
At the moment I don´t know what it says exactely on the graves, but I will look it up tommorow.
If it is a personification could it be that a special type of Music brought these people to death?
