With Temple of Elemental Evil, Star Wars KotOR and NWN's second expansion pack all coming out for Christmas, I think it's a good job RiftRunner is not going up against them.

I'm sure not everyone who will buy RiftRunner will play all - or any - of those games, but I for one will be buying them all (just as soon as I upgrade my damn PC...)

And if RiftRunner does come out when things have calmed down it stands a better chance of selling well, which is what we all want.

Take ya time, Larian...

I agree ... The mere amount of games being released at Christmas time makes a big hole in every RPG-lover's purse. (purse -> British English)

The time after it might have calmed things down - except when the people are still playing ...

There will always be a good reason to postpone the release of Riftrunner. Christmass would have been a very good period to release the game just because there is more potential money floating around and that would balance out the effect of more titles being released. Even in March 2004 there will probably be some major title that will release so I don't think that nowadays there exists a "good" moment to release the game. The only thing you need is huge PR and great marketing.

The only reason why we are lucky to wait is that if Larian would release the game at Christmas it would probably be buggy as hell (with all due respect for the talent of all the Larian programmers of course).

It'd be buggy if released before Christmas because it wont be near finished!

What I just hope is that come March next year pressure will not be on Larian to release the game if it's still not properly finished, and by properly I mean just look at Temple of Elemental Evil! Bug city!!

We want a game that requires as few patches as possible (or even none ) !
If that means a slip in dates I'm sure all here would be patient!

I'm sure there's a few bugs in Temple of EE to slice with your sword somewhere! Unfortunetly the endless bugs I keep hearing about are of the programming kind!

Not having a net connection at home myself it's such a pain having to get a patch to make a game playable! Once the patch is over 1.3 megs (too big for a floppy disk) I get annoyed!

Most of my patches come from mags. It may not be a high enough statistic to count but there are lost sales for a game where people dont have net connections to patch it up.

The phrase - good game once patched does not hold high regard with me.

PlowKing, where do you d/l the patches (and ultimatly put them on a floppy) from? Most moddern establishments should have access to a CD burner or Zip drive by now O.o

Alternativly, if you live in england, I could mail you a CD with any patches on it you need, I can get my hands on blank CD's for a mear 5p (ish) each ^-^ (high quality ones too!). Should be able to post a CD for less then 30p... (i hope, heh)

Your offer is most generous, but not necessary. Thanks anyway though.

I live in Ireland, but I don't need the patch as I have it from long ago when the game first came out. It's not the latest patch I think but I dont really care because I never had a problem playing and finishing the game with that patch so it suits me.

I download stuff in work, and dont have access to the CD burner here without people thinking why, or what am I using it for! I could go to a net cafe and burn it there, and would if I really had to, but I dont in this case.

Anyhoo I bought a zip disk that I can bring into work now and can take whatever I want off (mods, demos etc.) my computer and bring it home.

No problem

Ah, ok, cool
Ive got a Zip disk that I use to get stuff from my University, there quite handy

The reason i get stuff from my Uni occasionly rather then from my own net connection btw is because my university was one of the first to do a computing course, which means its got one of THE best net connections ive even heard of!
Its beyond T1, T2, or T3, there server is acctually a ROUTER, directly connected to Super Janet (Which is the router used by all the universities in england) which then connects directly with the main internet backbone down england .
If I use the universities internet at the right time (like 6 in the morning) i can d/l 100 Mb films in around 5 seconds!!

100mb in a few second...now there's my idea of a dream connection!!

Even my work connection is crappy...average about 30 kbps..but beats a modem anyday!

In this country (Ireland) service providers are $%^£^&*! Doesn't matter if you have a 56K modem or more...you are limited to 28K bandwidth. That way they dont have to lay any more cables than is necessary and can double the people on line (2 people sharing one 56k line, 28k each)

As for broadband you'd be mad to get it here. Not availible in most places anyway but where it is it's mad expensive. It's like they actually dont want your custom!!

An editor of a computer magazine once wrote that there might be a kind of social division one day - between those with broadband connection and those without.

Remember how much data there is out in the internet even now whioch almost requires boradband connection - not only Demos of games !

@AlrikFassbauer

Ah yes, I heard of him in one of my cyberculture lectures at university, he called them the 'information class' or somthing I believe. In a way, they already exist, those with net connections and computers, and those without.

Sorry to hear that plow king, I had a 14.4k (!!!!) modem for aages, then upgraded strait to a 512k cable connection, the speed difference was hurrendous! I cant even think of going back to my 14.4k days smirk

Until the middle of this year or so I had a slower one ... 28.8 ? I don't know, because I'm no expert in Modems. Well, I've upgraded to a 56k Modem, and the speed is noticeable (right spelled ?).
