I have got the 2 gems for the wounded soldiers, but the healers have moved from Aleroth. When I talk to the healer's, only the lizard dude (Grome?) makes any reference about the soldiers, who I do not see anywhere. Can I still complete this quest, or should I abandon it? Thanks

I'm afraid that it's too late. You have to either heal the soldiers before the healers leave Aleroth or they both die.

I'm curious, how did you get the second gem? Magic mirror duplication, or are there in fact healing gems elsewhere in the game?

here, IOError, look at the pic and the next 2 ones. Then you know how to duplicate. that's the only way to heal them - no other.

Kiya you wench, I'm the guy in this thread that already knows that, it's the other two who needed that info! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> I did the quest already, no problem.

(Thank... God... for... Restoration... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />)

I was referring to this - and I'm not used to being insulted in this way, gamer.

Two points.

One: I was asking him whether he had duplicated the gem (in the only way I know how, the mirror) or if he had picked up a gem someplace else and then come back to Aleroth. My post was not a request for quest info, it was just asking how precisely he had gotten the gem, as he apparently only did so well AFTER leaving the town. I found this interesting, and thus asked how he got it just in case others existed that I did not know about.

Two: You really need a sense of humor. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Calling someone a wench is perhaps the most inane and obviously JOKING "insult" possible. (possible exception if the person if female, but not even then) That and maybe "dork" or "savage", or some other such foolishness. I was just correcting you, mildly, in a joking fashion. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> So yeah. Chill, basically.

it is humor only when all in the conversation agree that it is. otherwise it's a bad one. maybe next time u'll remember to include 'just joking' phrase to end your post, ok? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> that is, if u are. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shhh.gif" alt="" />

What everyone needs to remember when they're making a post is that when people can't see your face and know that you are joking - you're words come across as just words. Words can hurt even when they're not intended to.

Small story: A few years ago it was very popular to remark about a female that you admired that she was "Some *itch". I, being the uh, unhip <gg> person that I was, was mortally offended when someone I thought was my friend called me that. Needless to say, since we were able to talk about it, I soon understood that he hadn't meant it as an insult at all, instead in his mind he was admiring me greatly. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" /> LOL

Here we are even more sensitive to words - what has a slang meaning in one country or another doesn't mean it has the same meaning in another. Some words get translated straight out of the dictionary!

DQueen has a really good point in there. It is difficult to express your self in the net without having ppl face to face. And the differenses in language and culture, makes things worst. My best male friend calls me «animal». It is pretty used here and he is calling me that with a very tender way. But I am sure that if I called someone in here animal would get <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />. Could never understand. Talking is the best way solving these issues. So please people if I wright something strange pm me (or slap me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />)

Heh heh, argh... okay, now I feel constrained to paste some of the messages I sent (with of course only stuff pertaining to me alone left in) so you guys know what happened. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Well, I am sorry if you felt there was any insult implied. I use the word "wench" (and a few other choice idiocies) as friendly insults among my friends. "You bloody savage!" is another personal favorite, heh. A friend of mine even sent me this link: http://wench.little-gamers.com/store/store.php

She told me, "You WILL buy me that shirt for Christmas! A large if you please! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />" I'm actually buying several for people this year, mwhahha.

So I wasn't trying to insult you, it's that the thread post intriqued me. I know the mirror is the only way to duplicate the Aleroth healing gem, but the way he phrased his post made me pause and think, "Hmmm... well, I wonder if he means he actually bought/found a gem someplace else in Rivellon and then came back? I should ask just to be sure."

Definitely a serious bummer that the thread poster missed out on the free Restoration spell, talk about a God send in the beginning of the game. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Heh heh, no worries <we> resolved the issue with no problems. Really more of a language barrier than anything else, that and the everpresent problem of tone transfering over the web.

However, I would make the argument that forcing people to put "just kidding" after each joking post really isn't a realistic expectation. Certainly in a face-to-face situation, it would ruin a joke to do that. That's really the job of things like the tone of one's voice. Now, I fully appreciate the fact that tone NEVER transfers well over a forum, especially between strangers. But as a general point, I'd say that the addition of a smiley at the end of the sentence should certainly mitigate the problem when it occurs. I would say I could have put the ":D" immediately after "wench" for the sake of clarity, but give a guy a little credit, I did try! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I know this is a moot point of course since <we> are now in full agreement, I just wanted to bring up the issue with you in more of a general sense. If we can't have tone, we should learn to rely on smileys and similar methods when meaning is unclear.
