Thx for the welcome So does anyone think my avatar is too intense now? Are the blinking eyes too much of a distraction...I can change it back to unblinking if it bothers anyone.

Wow, now I see what I've been missing all the time, I had eliminated animations... Very intense, Xena, nice, reminds me of shiny sapphires I don't have .Kiya

Xena, great job. I love the way the eyes do the double blink.I rate it

And I agree with Tut.
If something is overdone, like always repeating animated gif's, it loses its effect, and when it loses its effect then it is just distracting, random noise with neither meaning nor purpose. I think that static images are much more effective because they capture a certain emotion in one single snapshot of a particular pose.

Besides, animated gifs like avatars are often too big: I've seen that one of the animated dragons in this forum (don't remember which) weighted in at 40kb. Another such gif is about 76kb - just for one avatar! Think of the poor modem users.. IMO ~8kb should be an upper limit for images of these dimensions (80x80 pixels if I'm not mistaken, although I'd prefer a limit of 64x64 here as well, but that's irrelevant right now and too late anyway).

Back to animated gif's. In all honesty, Xena, I found your eyes much more enigmatic when they didn't flash at all. The look alone was passionate, whereas now it's sort of.. well, flashy.

This actually goes for the other animated avatars too. They just get boring after a while...

I agree on the lower-bandwith users problem, but they're not complaining... yet

And here I reduced the colour depth of my avatar to 256 colours, since 12KB was a little large, but 4KB was acceptable. EDIT From a random sample, Larian's supplied avatars appear to in the 5-15KB range, with most around 7-9KB. I also like the static eyes avatar. I use WebWasher (free for personal use) to disable almost all animations. Web sites which use Flash, etc. and disable the right click options to turn it off, I quickly leave. I exited WebWasher and tried to re-load the eyes gif, but it didn't work.

how about making the first frame pause longer but the rest fast so it blinks less often/more cool when it does ![[Linked Image]](http://www.kasec.org/avatar.gif) Maybe even more dealy than this? hmmm...
