Hey i am having troubles with a game called LED wars. I am not sure if any of you have played or even heard of it before but if you have hopefully you can help me out. The problem is that i cant get it to run. i believe that this has something to do with the fact that i am running Windows xp. I have tried to find a patch but have been unsuccessful. If anyone knows anything about this or where i can get a patch from please tell me.
Thanks
bruce

Yippie! You got it!

Edit: Would it be a problem for you to delete the other posts? Would be less confusing for the others...

I have heard of LED Wars, but have not played it. Have you tried XP's compatibility mode? IIRC, right click on the executable (or maybe also a shortcut) and select Properties, then Compatibility Mode (or maybe that is on the context menu directly). XP's help system would give a more detailed description.

If it wasn't for references to Larian's previous projects either here or in various interviews, I would not have heard of it at all.

Thanks for those patches goldylocks. I was real excited when you posted them. Unfortunatly they didnt work. i couldnt get them to run for some reason. I looked at the read me files that came with them after that and none of the fixes had to do with compatibility issues. They will be nice to find anyway if i ever get the game working though. Raze that was a good idea as well. I tried it but it didnt work. Xp wasnt an option so i assumed that NT would be the compatability one and it still didnt open. I also just reinstalled it just in case, but it isnt working. I worte down the message i am getting here it is.

c:Program Files/Larian Studios/LED.EXE is not a valid win 32 application.

Hopefully that will give someone an idea. I think it means it wont work because of the version of windows i am using, if not correct me. Any other ideas i am still open to and would appritiate.
Thanks again
Bruce

Usually the 'not a valid win 32 application' error is caused by a corrupt file (such as a broken download). Try uninstalling the game, re-boot, shut down all non-essential applications (especially anti-virus programs) and re-install. If that doesn't help, try installing it from a different optical drive, if possible.

If you have problems once you get the program to actually run, there should be an option for Windows 95 (or 98) in the compatibility settings. You set the options for what version of Windows the program is compatible with, and XP can compensate for some differences between Windows versions. Games are usually fairly independent, though, so changes in the registry, etc should not be a problem (compatibility mode would be worth trying, but not likely to help). DirectX is suppose to be backwards compatible, but it is possible for a game written for one version to have problems with a later version.

If you don't get the game to work, you can still enjoy the Larian crew's extraoridinary (I'd rather not say in which direction they excel) acting skills in the video briefings. Seeing Lar as an eco-terrorist and Kyrill as a Russian Scientist (or something like that) is just priceless.
Hmm, I remember that about 2 years ago Lar said he'd make the game available for free download - wouldn't now be a good time?

Sorry that I can't help you. I have the game, and it works, but I run Win98.

LED Wars, is a game by Larian

I never heard about this! Thought Divinity was the only game of the Larians which was released.

Yes, it was our first game - and it was a lot of fun to develop it
Click here for the Ledwars website.

And here are some music samples from the game, created by Kirill:

track 2
track 3
track 4
track 5
track 6
track 7

Enjoy!

And here (file size: 9,06 mb) is another music track - if I am not wrong, this was a bonus track for the German version of The Ledwars.

Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure I heard it somewhere else, and more than 1 time.
