I worked there for five years. I needed an nick for my Hotmail account about seven years ago and decided on that one as I'd recently started working there. It kind of stuck since then. I also tried Kwik-E-Mark for a while, but didn't like it as much.

Hmm I'm a difficult person if it comes 2 nicks so here's some sort of history behind my "nicks"

Ok, I'm born named Pieterjan Fiers. So poeple started calling me "PJ", cus Pieter and Jan are both names on its own. So thats my real-life nickname.

The first time I needed another nick, was when I called to some radio youth talk-show that required a nickname. As I'm not the only person called Pieterjan and therefore PJ I decided to take some attitude with the nick "P-Jerk" ...

Later, when I first came in contact with multi-player gaming around, 4 years ago I had some try-out nicks, the first I used for a while was "Lord Carnage", beeing a fan of the Carmageddon series. But I stopped playing multiplayer and met IRC, "Lord_Carnage" wasn't a i'm your friendly neighbour nick. I Chose to have a retro games nickname "Bomberman" I made my first site www.bombernet.com and was know for some months with that nick. But I did some research and there were several ppl with sites with that nick. I didn't mind much but I tought about it.

So bit later, I had to change my nick, cus of some IRC-network operater apparently had the same nick. I changed my nick based on my favorite song at that time: 'Come carpe diem baby' by 'Metallica' --> so i had "Carpediembaby!" as nick wich worked on the IRC network I was back then.
But the channel I mainly chatted in moved 2 another net, and I had RL friends on that net, so I joined them. "Carpediembaby" was to long for that net and "Carpediem" was taken, hence "CarPd13m". I still have that nick if I visit that net, but I do rarely. Tho some of my real-life friends I knew from then, still call me "Carpe". I joined Larian boards somewhere in the "CarPd13m" period, January 2001.

Then I went back multiplayer gaming, around october 2001, So once again, I needed a nick with attitude, First I played with "Lord Carnage" but i didn't really like it anymore. So I chose another one, I played 1st persoon shooter games then, so what you got after you shot a gun? a shell and some gunsmoke. Called myself "GunSm0k3".

When I started playing RPG's I used "Draghermosran" as nick, just because It sounded RPG'ish to me, had some trouble with my Larian boards account and made a new one, "Draghermosran".

I'm not done yet. "GunSm0k3" once again, wasn't the most original or unique nickname. So 7 or so months ago I chose to get a new nick, I had several conflicts with other ppl named 'gunsmoke' or "GunSm0k3" so I had to do it. I sat down at my friends place and said, I need a new nickname "GunSm0k3" is so unorginal and I have more trouble explaining I'm not that "GunSm0k3" but someone else. But what? I was sitting there, in my 'Static-X' shirt and my friend said what about 'static-x' its your favo band. Wich was true it was my favo band. But Why just a bandname? thats not original as well. I did some thinking, I decided to mix my favorite band and number in one nick 'static-7"' ... nah doesn't sound that good. "satic07" (static o seven) Was better, and thats my gaming nick atm.

So actually I'm called Pieterjan, PJ, Carpe, static, and Dragh these days.

It's one of these days...

Oh mine is so simple. It is my fav song from Sisters of Mercy. It is called Lucretia (My reflection) and it is from their album called Floodland. You can find the lyrics in the Fav. Lyrics thread

Thanx for replying. It really interests me

@LUCRETIA

To pick a nick is a mental picnic.
So while you reflected on choosing a nick you saw your reflection in the mirror of your mind as you looked by means of your inner eye.
Your nick name reflects your nationality too as a bonus.
Your nick name is indeed a very good find Lucretia.

As for me “DAD”, I happen to be fascinated by symmetry and breaking symmetry, then I happen to be passing by some psychological stage in which I am coping with realising that I am getting old enough to be seen as a father more than a mate or a buddy.

All of this has nothing direct with choosing my nick but they were there in the background.

My first thought was that I could never accept the silly title “Divine Divinity” because what else could a divinity be else than divine!
The adjective and the noun are not to go together because a Divinity must be divine but a divine “thing” may not be a divinity.

My avatar is to become divine within the game as Divinity chooses to pass immortality to that Divine One.
That is why I wondered why the game was never called “Divine And Divinity” rather than “Divine And Divinity”!

When I abbreviated “Divine And Divinity” into DAD I felt a moment of ecstasy due to the symmetry and the fact of feeling like a dad. The Dees looked like eyes and the A like a nose (more or less).

I noticed that “Dungeons And Dragons” share the same acronym and it was so suitable that it struck me as s perfection.

It is about RPG and what do you do with a poison better than “Drink And Die”!

I “Dodge and Defend”, I “Dwell and Discover”, I “Dance and Dream”, I “Do and Do” and I “Destroy And Demolish”; so it was like a revelation in three characters describing me *DAD*.

or Divide And Devour
or Distill And Dilute
or Dainty And Delicate (just like Hugh the crossdressing farmer)
or Dumb(er) And Dumber(er)
or Dic.k And Dong (like every other male)
or Daisy And Dot (like 'other' kind of male)
or DamarAramaD (don't ask me, i made that up)

nice to know the origin of your nick(s). kejero has yet 2 tell us about his nick origin. did he get it when he finally made a costume (yellow spandex) & going to be a full-time superhero?

i still see nero as a cd burning software.

as for mine, i was trying to have a tongue-in-cheek nick though i know the humour's lost to almost everyone here. janggut is a malay word for beard(facial hair on lower lip). initially i wanted the nick; Tok Janggut which roughly means old bearded one. the name belonged to a dude(he really did have beard) who opposed the brit oppression way way back when the brit empire had its hold on malaya & borneo. the dude (who is now a national hero) finally got caught by the brits & put to death. he looked a bit like zandalor.

and then ...

@Kejero: I notice while poking fun at Virgo that you deftly avoided telling us the origin of your own name

I noticed it too
I also noticed there is some more best-seller material in here...

Of course my story is even more breathtaking
In short: I took the South African name Kejeri from a short story from a book with short stories that I liked a long time ago. But I couldn't say I felt a lot like this Kejeri, so I decided to change the name into something that would completely erase any tracks that could lead to its inspiration.
That's not the whole story, but it's a good enough explanation for the public

Your stories people are so interesting. And how suitable for each one of you the nicks you chose! I am so glad and thankful for your answers

I enjoy this very much. You know for DAD I always thinking the name of a rock band called Disneyland After Dark. The use to call themselves DAD too. It so interesting to hear the true story behind those nicks. And for me personaly helps me to get to know you better. You know I always believed that nicks are special The show what or who we would wanted to be. Or what/who we are.

I laughed so much with Morbo who doesn´t like his wife cooking [Linked Image]

Thank you all people. You really made my day.

Hey Lucretia, can you tell me where I can get cd's from Disneyland After Dark and the band where you get your nickname too?

I want to know what kind of music they are because to tell you the true I never in my life have ever heard of rock bands like that. Now do not think I do not believe you, It's just that they have cool names and I want to listen to them to see if their music is cool too.

Yes, I know is OFF TOPIC!!!!

But what else can I do!!!

By the way, my nick oBosch = Osvaldo Bosch = my name.

I just use other nicks for games only...

examples of nicks used in games by me......

Dr. Evil = Austin Powers movies
Mini mi = Austin Powers movies
Locke = thief in Final Fantasy
Shadow = Assasin in Final Fantasy 6
Link = The Legend of Zelda
Ganon = The Legend of Zelda

and such like, such like, such like

The name Koiju came about purly by accident

I was bored one day, and typed random letters on the keyboard. I, by chance, typed 'koiju'. when i read it I thought it sounded like a cool nick name, and have had it ever since ^_^

I'm almost Tempted to start using the name Anrui Tenshi tho...
'Anrui' means 'silent tears' in Japanese, and 'tenshi' means 'angel'
So quite simply, Anrui Tenshi means 'angel of silent tears' (well, the grammar is probably wrong, but its close enough, heh)

In the past i have had other nick's too, i first had 'Faith' as the first online game i playd was Diablo, and i made a rogue and wanted a cool female name, Faith was the first name that came to mind.
I kept the name for quite a while, tho occasionaly used other names for other characters like 'WinterMoon' ((which i simply thought sounded interesting) and 'Norik' (which is from the RL nickname of a good friend of mine 'Norik the norse man' (its 'Kiron' backwards, heh)) but eventually felt i needed to change the main nick (everyone kept assuming i was female O.o). I chose 'Makoto' Which is simply 'Faith' in Japanese, heh. I also use 'Nenriki' (another Japanese word for faith) for female characters and 'Shakaku' (which is 'Angel Of Fire' in Japanese) It was around this time i accidently typed Koiju .

P.S. Before you ask, no, im not a japanophile, i just like the sound of there words

@Koiju : I believe that names with many vowels (right spelled ?) sound kind of beautiful to humans. I even read that japanese people put additional vowels into foreign words to let them sound more bautiful. I cannot say if this is true or not, because I'm german.

About Nero : I read a few months ago the biography "Nero" by Sueton. Nero is such a [self-censoring script takes over] , I would really, *really* like the absolutely rudest words to describe this decadent roman Emperor. I hate him.

Other nicks I have used are: Ragnar, Ragnarok, Elric, Etrik and Etrigan

Ragnar just because I really used to like an old movie called The Vikings and he was the leader (Jarl). Ragnarok flowed from that (Its the viking armageddon). Elric is from a series of books by Michael Moorcock about an albino with a soul eating sword called Stormbringer. I kind of varied it to Etrik for my character in the Quest for Glory games. Etrigan is a demon from a comic who can only speak in Rhyme.
