This is a superb action adventure I just bought. I just thought Id share my views with my favourite gamers

What they say:
Expose the conspiracy, Capture the truth. As the rebellious action reporter Jade, you must penetrate your leaders web of lies and expose their dark secrets. Your mission: To expose a conspiracy that has corrupted the harmony of your planet and bred an evil that must be fought. Working with your friends help, using the only weapon with enough power...the Truth.

What I say:
Beyond good and evil is a 3d action adventure with a difference. Dont expect a whole bunch of jumping puzzles or a great deal of combat, this is a thinking game. Jade is a photographer (Yes, you heard me) and a lot of the game will be spent trying to take a good shot with your camera. One of the over-riding quests is to photograph all the lifeforms on the planet, and trust me, it will take a lot of skill to do so, and if you have patience, you will have a lot of fun trying.

The Domz have been at war with all sentient species for years, slaughtering countless numbers in their raids. Against them stand Alpha Section, a group of armoured warriors, apparently protecting the innocent. Well, at least they show up whenever the Domz do.

Hillys is a peaceful world until the Domz arrive, Jade and Pay'j live in a lighthouse, taking care of refugee children from the war. Desperate for cash they cant even pay to erect thier shield when the Domz attack. All the children almost die, but for the bravery and ferocity of Jade and Pay'j. So desperate for work are they that when a dangerous photography job comes along they take it. But all is not as it seems and before long they are neck deep in the rebellion.

The game mostly consists of sneaking about as Jade and taking photos of things that will incriminate the Alapha Section. The world is large and well realised, the graphics will make you drool. There is a day and night cycle (You can even photograph various constaletions), lots of people wander the streets and the air is filled with spaceships.

Sound and music are fantastic, I have even found myself wandering around singing some of the songs (Scary huh? ). When you first start you can overhear people talking about how good Alpha Section is, and how much they are helping. As the game goes on and you expose more and more of the truth people will talk about it, it gives the feeling of a living world, like your actions matter. Eventually you will lead the whole planet to rebellion......but I wont tell you anymore, saving Hillys is up to you!

I've read very good articles about it, and it definitively bumped / popped into my "buying list".

However, I need a new PC first ...

I just read they have made a Patch. And an "updated Demo".

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/beyondgoodevil/downloads.html

By the way, what fascinated me, is that she is "Jade" in every aspect of her look : Everything on her is coloured in "Jade".
Perfect styling, so to say. (And with a deeper meaning, if you look at what Jade means in different cultures ...)

Yes, the patch apparently fixes a few issues and also improves the graphic performance somewhat! Those that had problems with the demo should give the new one a try!!!

I feel that Jade means something in the japanese culture. But I don't know what.
Does anybody know?

a different type of "shooter."
Is it anything like thief?

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

Kind of, in that there is sneaking. But really its a lot lighter game. Thief is quite black, BGE is more like a cartoon. Its still very likeable though and you will get attached to all the characters. Dont expect another Thief when you play it and you will be fine

Cleglaw is off the claw list

Is "Beyond Good & Evil" similar to "The Longest Journey" and "Syberia?"

It is an action game at heart, not an graphic adventure as in TLJ or Syberia. The reason I compare Jade to those games is that she is a strong and interesting female lead whose depth goes beyond the cup size of her bra. Besides, she has green lips and funky jeans
