when I try to open my items.000 file, it gets stuck at 71% <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />:(

this suuuucks so bad, I wanna cry <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

is there no way at all to keep the savegames?

This is quite sucky though, I've never seen a game where you couldnt use your savegame after a patch..
