I didn't get any good loot from the imps, besides gold charms I didn't use (YMMV). I think the only equipment I upgraded in the wastelands was my sword (found the Sword of Gods) and leggings (bought a set from Kroxy). If you are in the mood for a killing spree, go ahead; if you get bored, start skipping them.
