Why do Larian games tend to change names? I mean Divinity: Sword Of Lies was renamed to Divine Divinity (bleah!) and now this: Beyond Divinity? I mean: I always thought the developpers had the right to names, no?

WTF is Beyond Divinity <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/question.gif" alt="" /> There is a focus group somewhere that seriously needs to be slapped about the head.

What is hipgames.com ? A web site about games or a editor ? In which country is it ? Maybe "Beyond Divinity" is a mistake or a joke or a real change of the name of RRR. Editors could think it is better for selling games that "Divinity" appears in the name of game. To show to the people that this new game takes place in the Divinity Universe.
I don't like this name too and i hope it is a mistake or a joke.
@DEATHATTHEDOOR It is very nice to see you back in this forum, even if it is only for one post. I missed you.

By the way, hipgames offers many new <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> shots, but pretty low-res. Here for example the new map screen.

Hi Nemisis For which country hipgames is the publisher of RR. For France and Germany it is Ubi Soft, for England it is Digital Jesters. I hope Lynn, Marian or any Larian people will say something about this name. It is very confusing Barta <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Edit : Thanks Morbo i dit not know it was the publisher for North America.

Actually, I think it is worse. Divine Divinity is repetitively redundant, but at least it sort of goes together. Beyond Divinity reeks of a focus group charged with keeping the brand recognition of the first game, but needing to imply it is better. 'Beyond' conjures up images of melodramatic cartoons and over-acted movies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Raze. Beyond Divinity is amongst the cheesiest names I could Imagine. It's like calling Planescape "Beyond Baldur's Gate". Also, didn't Lar say, that no one would be going to mess with the name this time? I don't think he'll like that.

I tought that now the game is self finaced they could pick the publishers. Also theire is still no "oficial" anounsement from Lar,Lynn that it will publish <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> . So lar can still kick hip games (if the contract hasn't been signed yet ). This is a very bad move made by hip games.

Beyond Divinity reeks of a focus group charged with keeping the brand recognition My feelings, also... This is just lame: lazy, and unimaginative marketing. But why would they throw away nearly six months of solid promotion in the rest of the world... the official <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> website, and all the features about the game on other sites like RPGdot.com and ign? Are North American gamers really that isolated and narrow in their focus? Or is it the publishers who are out of touch? (** grumble ** wonder if i can order my copy from Digital Jesters!) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> Nice to see you again, DEATHATTHEDOOR, even if the news is rather dismal!

Ah, come now! Everyone knows WE AMERICANS (or anyone on the North American Continent) cannot Spell RIFTRUNNER!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" /> Wasn't it mentioned befor that HIP was a subsidiary of CDV? That should explain things... I can just imagine the look on Lar's face! Did anyone notice they had a release date of 02/24/04? MMM...BTW, I have just got my new gaming mags for January. There is still no mention of Riftrunner, or ehem, Beyond Divinity! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> Who's got the football?

First of all, thank you, people, for the warm welcome. I never forgot Jurak, nor Barta or Raze. Good to see you guys.
Hip is indeed the developper for North America, can't say I am very happy with it, though: they made Dead to Rights for PC and when they shipped it and the game was in stores, they realised that there was a bug at the training mission (unskipable) which prevents you from continuing.
What about Ubi Soft, Barta? It's the dev in france? If yes, I might try to get the french version <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> (me likes Ubi).

Yes Ubi Soft is a french company. It has a good reputation here in France. But i will try to get the english version because i always prefer original versions (except if i do not understand the language). And for helping in this forum it's easier with the english version. For Divine Divinity, some people told me that the translation in french was not always good. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" />Death i am happy to see that you are feeling fine and that you will be back here. At least for Riftrunner (or maybe for Beyond Divinity <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />). I guess someone from Larian will make a comment on this?
I'm sure since that they have <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> that is what they will choose to use, but who really knows.
Ironically I never thought Divine Divinity was that bad of a name, or at least not to get as much talk as it did in every review. To me it is the same as if someone was to say Holy God.
Then again, people see things differently.

If hipgames does change the name they will possibly loose money due to the fact that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> has been the original name for the next game in the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> series from the start. I checked out hipgames 'contack' link and you get the chance to send the a question. This was my question "I thought the name of the next game from Larian Studios was "Riftrunner" not Beyond Divinity? did you change the name of the game?" ask your question here hipgame contact page

Well, I imagine fans will buy the game no matter what name they choose.
I thought Gothic was a good game but I doubt it made sales based on the name. Seemed alot of people turned away from the game because of the controls but it was the fans there for Gothic 2.
They could call the game Riffraff and I would still buy it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
No disrespect there and I know fans would rather have a cool name.

I can't imagine that the same game could be called "Beyond Divinity" in North America and "Riftrunner" in Europe. It's stupid and confusing. I am used to the name of "Riftrunner" and i am a little bit disappointed. But i am confident in Larian, they are doing the best to give us a great game and if they decided to change the name they must have good reasons to do it. Barta

I like the name. I start to chuckle a little every time I think about it. Much more memorable than some generic "Magic Warriors Mystic Quest" title.

Some games are renamed in different countries for reasons unknown. Sim Rollercoaster was renamed Theme Prak World in Australia. Buggered if I know why. Even the official site acknowledged the name change in Australia.

we will have to give larians some time to figure this thing out with the hipsters. talk about getting shot in the hip by HIP. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/down.gif" alt="" />
all of us forum members would know RRR despite name change but others who may not know about it will wait in vain for RRR when it already did but with another name. this is going to be bad for larian. this time i guess, larian will have to push their name more to the forefront so that once people notice the larian logo, they'll know it's the producers of DD so their new product(s) rock!
i cannot blame the HIPpies for pushing the name 'Divinity' for the cover as they may think it's to continue establishing the brandname which is 'Divinity'. but putting 'Beyond' is a bad call. they could've done better by making it 'Divinity: Riftrunner' which can be interpreted as a game in Divinity universe. just like what george lucas did with his star wars franchise; Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (movie), Star Wars: Rebel Assault (video game), Star Wars: Galactic Battleground (pc game). paste 'star wars' accompanied by ':' then u got yourself a franchise.
larian can do the same with RRR. just remove the 'beyond' please. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Well, if the name is already taken then I guess they have no choice in changing it.
" Riftrunner is Larian Studios new role playing game set in the award-winning Divinity universe. In Riftrunner, you become soul-forged with a Death Knight. Your fate is to spend the rest of eternity bonded to this creature of evil, unless you can undo this curse. You and your unlikely companion embark on a great adventure to unlock the secret of riftrunning... your only answer to this life of darkness!"
They could call the game "Divine Eternity" and I would guess that people would see the relation of the first game.
I understand it is a separate game that follows 20 years later, but it is in the same trend.

The German mag PC Games has taken the Gerücht - what is it in Englisch ? Rumor ! (finally ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ) and posted it on their website.

It seems alot of people are putting too much thought into the name, including myself as alot of my posts have different names. I guess most people simply wanted to call the first game Divinity, which is great because now we have the Divinity Universe. I agree with almondblight that Divine Divinity is much more memorable. Obviously someone thought it had an extra ring to it, so that's what they went with. Personally I feel that it does push the name forward a bit more and has a shine to it. I am a fan and while liking the game very much I am also happy with the name. I'm sure I would have been equally as happy with Divinity. It seems with all the feedback and trying to make people happy, that they're wanting to get rid of the Divine part. I think it is something they could work with and use later down the road if they choose. Why not, at least the option will always be there. Back to thinking too much, I now think Beyond Divinity is fine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Seriously, if you are looking at all the games to come as a series there is nothing wrong with the names. First there is Divine Divinity, then there was Beyond Divinity and now we all wait for Divinity II. It's perfectly fine and the more I see it, the more I like it. What do people want, King's Quest, King's Quest 2, King's Quest 3, King's Quest 4 and so on. I already like the variety in the Divinity's Universe with names and it adds to the series. Beyond Divnity is great and give them a chance to drop the Divine part if that's what people wish. I guess most people will be happy when the third game comes out and it is simply called Divinity II. Anyways, I just want to give some positive feedback and let Larian know that I am a happy fan along your bumpy road. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> Also it does seem that they will be changing Riftrunner. I just happen to be at GameSpot and they now have Beyond Divinity listed. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/beyonddivinity/

I'd of preferred 'Divinity: Riftrunner' or 'Divinity: Soul Forge', or something. Oh well, 'Beyond Divinity' isn't a bad name, just a touch melodramatic.

I see what everyone is saying, especially what janggut said about Star Wars.
Guess they could always go back to what they original wanted when the third game comes along, Divinity II: Sword of Lies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
Now I am thinking about Star Wars: Splinter of the Minds Eye.

What about Divine Divinity: Riftrunner? It has the franchise feel, it relates to the first game, and I don't think it imposes on any patents.
Was Riftrunner one of the Army Men games (little green soliders)?

I'm going to ramble on some more.
I was thinking about the Monkey Island series and how they titled their games.
Monkey Island Monkey Island 2 The Curse of Monkey Island Escape from Monkey Island
I still think Larian has alot of choices with future titles and what they wish to do. If they want, they could do something along the same line and make each game have a unique name while keeping Divinity as the focus.
Something along the lines of this,
Divine Divinity Beyond Divinity Darkness of Divinity Curse of Divinity Shadows of Divinity
Of course these are just examples but it is something to think about. Hey, you can't change the past so you might as well work with what you've got.
It's just a thought. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

I still think it could work.
On my box Divine is in smaller print while Divinity is the name standing out for the game. They could do the same with Beyond in a smaller print and Divinity being the focus.
Divine is gone now, so it's not a matter of being repititious in people's eyes. It's just the matter of introducing another Divinity game. I still think it will work with the different print size and Divinity holding the attention as the main name.
If you replace Divine with Beyond in the same manner they did with the first game, it will work I tell you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I was thinking about the Monkey Island series and how they titled their games.
Monkey Island Monkey Island 2 The Curse of Monkey Island Escape from Monkey Island
Actually no: The Secret of Monkey Island Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge The Curse of Monkey Island Escape From Monkey Island So it should be: Divine Divinity DD2: Deamon of Lies's revenge The Curse of Divine Divinity Escape from Divine Divinity (specially made for those DD addicts in the form of tablets: you take 5 tablets instead of playing the game... each week, you take less than before.) Personally, the game was originally named Divinity: Sword of Lies So in my opinion, it should be: Divinity: Sword of Lies Divinity: Riftrunner Divinity: Whatevercomestoyourmind Divinity: Whothehellcares?

Actually yes,
You know what I have been doing, favors for everyone else.
I have been running down a major highway looking for someones lost hubcap. After wasting my time and finding two hubcaps which were wrong, I am told maybe it was farther down the road. Ontop of that this persons car was serviced by a dealer ship and they didn't bother asking for a replacement cap.
Of course all of this was during the day and at night I am running around the bars trying to get paid back 70 dollars someone owes me. But of course after a few nights I spend out 110 dollars not to get anything in return.
So you know what, who really cares about people crying over a name of games that at least give some kind of enjoyment. They are liars and they promised and they said and so on, but at least they damn well talk to people.
Hey, lets just not get any feedback and when it's done it is done.
I know Larian doesn't have total control over everything, but they get excited enough to at least tell us what is going on. But it is so damn OBVIOUS there is no reply to this because they feel bad about changes which they didn't have control over.
So let's just say what they owe us, a good game isn't enough and lets just totally dump on a name.
We love the great games you create Larian and appreciate you understanding why we cry about the little things also.
Just like life, it is never enough so don't knock yourself out.
Keep up the good work. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

But it is so damn OBVIOUS there is no reply to this because they feel bad about changes which they didn't have control over. As they are self-publishing this game and HIP is 'just' publishing the game for them in North America, I can only imagine that HIP jumped the gun. If the name change is true then we can expect to hear from them through the proper channels, ie. a press release. What is so obvious to you does not neccessarily make it the truth.

Aha!
Well, makes sense: Riftrunner to Divinity Universe is like Planescape to D&D: it links all D&D campaigns yet it's a different one. Same with Riftrunner: other universes of Divinity.
Good luck.
I bet many people will now shout for a "beyond Divinity" smilie.

Beyond Divinity? Oh well, I knew "Riftrunner" sounded too good to be true. There's just no stopping the "Larian Commitee of Bad Game Names".
If we don't stop them soon, they'll rename Divinity 2 to something idiotic like: "2 Divine 2 Divinity" or "The divination of divine divinity's divinity, for the divine... AND BEYOND!!!"

It's not that bad, after you get used to it. To infinity and *slap* .. stop that. They will pretty much have to re-name Divinity 2 now, at least to Divinity 3. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Driving miss-divinity... "Return to Rivellon" , <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> or Abducted at Ars " or "Alls well in Aleroth", or is it? or "Ruckus in Rivertown", or "Wrangling the rift", or "Distraught in the Dark Forest" or "Conundrum of the Cursed Abbey" or "Drunkfest at the Dwarven Halls" or "Fight night at the Ducal" .... or "Faeries in the Farmlands" or "Vagabonds in Verdistis" or maybe even... "Orc Camp Opposition"
you have to admit.....changing the name will reflect on the original Divine Divinity, and thus identifying itself with the fine quality gaming experience and satisfaction we have all come to love from <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> and in my opinion is quite possibly a good marketing move to keep part of the successful <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> name in the title...... and I'm still buying it anyway!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I have the impression that Lynn was not so happy to write that... but perhaps it is only my impression...
Anyway Beyond Divinity is not bad after all. Riftrunner was difficult for me to pronounce it.
Good Luck guys with the new game. Whatever it is called. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well...yes, it is that bad, but as Jurak said, we'll buy it anyway... and no doubt we'll love the game as much as we love Divine Divinity -- title and all!
But what new horror is this... from the press release: "Beyond Divinity is due for release on PC-CD ROM during the first half of 2004." (italics mine) Please tell me it's a typo, and the game will still be out in February or March!!!!

February and March are in the first half of 2004. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> I think with the publishers announcing specific release dates, it would be difficult to push back the production/shipping schedules.

The Secret of Monkey Island Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge The Curse of Monkey Island Escape From Monkey Island You're right about the names and I like that style, but I would have done it different myself. The Secret of Monkey Island Return to Monkey Island The Curse of Monkey Island Escape from Monkey Island I know it's nothing special and some might see it silly, but it follows the same format. Anyways, thanks for the update lynn! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

What? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> Can we still call it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> in the privacy of the forum? I'm happy with the new name. What's in the name anyway? "Divine Divinity" didn't really matter much to the game. If they can sell more copies this way, let them.
Nobody understands when I talk about Tiberian Dawn becasue everyone else knows it as Command & Conquer. It was never advertised as Tiberian Dawn despite it being part of the game's title. That's when they were laying the way for Tiberian Sun. But regardless of the name, the game's still the same.

I'm happy with the new name also. But it is so damn OBVIOUS there is no reply to this because they feel bad about changes which they didn't have control over. I admit I was speculating there in that statement but I was under the influence. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> What does seem obvious is that they did feel bad about the feedback with the new name and all. So maybe they just sat back to see what everyone had to say and then they made the announcement. Either way, they are still pushing forward and we will have a new game soon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

i agree with mslynx that we being the insiders still refer to it as RRR instead of BD. we're so used to RRR for so long. maybe we call it RRR:BD?
yes, name-wise it won't be a prob for us as we know the game will rock. still, bad name(s) can keep potential gamers/buyers away. please be wary of that, larians.

Please change the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> logo guys... otherwise I will have to keep on typing Beyond <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />... not cool
tssss... get a grip for once and a while...which publisher didn't agree this time with the name?
But well, marketing rulezzz isn't it? And if it helps you to sell more copies of the game I can live with it.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/alien.gif" alt="" />Oh, s.c.r.e.w. that (pardon my language), I thought all of you read what Lynn's motto is; you seem to forget, guys (and gurls), that it was not the name, that addicted us (and addicts some of us still), but the Game behind it. And no matter what, there are almost 2000 of active members here, WE are the most influential marketing source, not the companies, or publishers, or developers. I already told and 'advertised' the game around somewhat 150 people. Most of them didn't give a s.h.i... about the title(well, maybe because some of them don't speak that good english;P), as long as they were able to play the most innovative Game of a kind. Plain numbers here show what is in our hearts about the game- looking just at some active posters, one may see that 60% have their own DD related sites. When I put the name "DD" in rambler or yandex (most popular russian search-engines), TONS of addresses pop out. I personally await BD with the same heart-thump as RRR, maybe because I realise, nothing apart from the name changed... (All three of us have the same opinion as for the name)
You will have a gun on you; but are not to use it under any circumstances- it's only to strengthen your authority. (EH)

1st game divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 2nd game <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />
This means that because it's beyond that it is better then the first one. Ok this I understand but what will happen to divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 2. Since Beyond is better than divine you can not call it divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 2 any more. It need to be better than beyond. It needs to be perfect. So in my opinion divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 2 should be renamed to ultimate <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> . By doing this you have a nice cascading trilogy where one part always surpasses the previous part.
Is this just my impression or did I put way to much time in this thesis. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />

That was also a problem I had. Here's what I came up with as a sollution.
4th game : Beyond Divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 6th game : Beyond Ultimate <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 7th game : Ultimate Divine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 8th game : Ultimate <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> Ok so laugh a bit with it. But when you look at it from a distance it's kind of funny in a strange way. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

OK so I really hadnt been paying attention to this part of the forum but what in the Hell...btw in response to...someone, the larians know that names can be killer I am guessing this was more of an "Executive" decision....What about changeing Divinity 2 to: "The Divine one: Return to Rivellion"

Is this just my impression or did I put way to much time in this thesis. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" /> LOL, I think we all are going to drive everyone at Larian studios a little crazy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> Here is my view on the whole matter. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> Everyone likes the name Divinity, so this was the first step in creating the Divinity Universe. In the same aspect this is what is creating the Divinity series. All the games will be one game, they are the Divinity games. It might be hard for some people to see this after knowing about Riftrunner for so long. In everyone's eyes it is 20 years later and a whole new game, when in fact it is still Divinity. Now we have <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> and it is 20 years later still being a whole new game, when in fact it is still Divinity. I can see people wanting to say, if it's 20 years later and you are Beyond that, then there is no way it can be Divinity. I have to reply to that by saying it is still Divinity, it is all part of the Divinity Universe. What we are truly Beyond is being past the point of Divine Divinity now. It is 20 years later and Divine is gone. I am not saying that the divine one is gone, I am just saying we are past the point of the first game. I am looking at it as, there will not be a Divine Divinity 2 game. We are past that point and there will simply be another Divinity game. They are all part of the Divinity Universe creating the Divinity series. I'm not saying that I am right, I am just saying this is how I look at it. People might want to say there is suppose to be a Divinity 2 game and then a Divinity 3 game. Sure, that is fine and it is all up to Larian in what they wish to do. The way I am looking at it is, they are not going to be Divine Divinity 2 and then Divine Divinity 3. The divine part in the title is gone, we are beyond that now. Well, that's how I see it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />

How about
'Beyond Divinity: The Riftrunner' or just 'Beyond Divinity: Riftrunner'
...and personally I never ever did like the name of the first game, so it's hard to add in the word Divinity to a working and decent sounding title.
Still I'm sure the game'll be great...long as I know what it's called when released so I can buy it I dont care!

I guess it's the week of ambivalent news for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> Well it's not the title gets the name on top of popularity lists. Then again I know games killed by their names, hope that does not happen... And if the game is good I'm going to buy it no matter the name (even if the title is going to be an enlargement of the publishers ego: The Divniest of Divine Divinity Divination or something like that). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
PS. Just found out who is publishing it in Poland and I am a bit ambivalent. The guys are professional and they (unlike the Polish publisher of DD) pay attention to marketing but if they stick to their tradition and translate everything into Polish I'm going to... *mumbles silently for a minute or two*.

Then again I know games killed by their names, hope that does not happen... Undying was a great name for a horror game and it also had Clive Barker's name pushing it. For whatever reason that game got over looked and everyone is loving it now. Then you have a game like Serious Sam that seemed to do good. That just goes to show you how stupid we are in the US. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> I still like Divinity and I am pretty sure I see what Larian is doing. After all we are roleplayers and have an imaginition. Personally I don't see a reason why things have to be abc and 123 even though these are the first things we learned in life. Next year if a friend was to ask what game I was playing, I would simply say I am playing one of the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> games. It's the second one in the series and it's called <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />. Then I would add I can't wait for the third one in the series. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

To answer your question. I am a member of this PIF (Powerfully Insane Fanbase). I want to know everything there is to know about my favorite games. Even if those publishers have nothing to do with me... I am a member of the D.J. forum for example. They publish in the U.K.,and they are really nice people. When they do their advertising for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />, I most likely will never see any of it in print. I will see what they have on their webspace, and it looks great so far. I want to see our Larians succeed! They are very talented and quite kind to their fans...(even though we are insane! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> )You say that CD-Projekt is very good at promotion. That is very good news! Knowing of Lar, he probebly picked them himself. Promotion IMHO is what cost our Larians in sales with <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> . They deserve better! Excuse me...The Best!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

The only thing that I am worried about is not the name but the time that the game will come to Greece. I hate to be in here and everybody finish the game and talk about it and me just wait to take it in my hands. So Larians you can call the game whatever you want but please send it fast in here <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Lol They could call it DIVINE FLOODLAND though. Staples, a name is one of many factors - aside form it there is the marketing, originality, availability of similar products, size of target group, blind luck etc. Yet a name is one of those factors that create the first impression. We say that books shouldn't be judged by their covers but there is a reason for making good covers... Well there is no point in discussing it now. Mslynx, I can almost bet they'll organize it well (DD lacked that) - contests, official website, file updates, official Polish forum, reviews written by players (You can guess once I get my hands on the game I'm going to write a review), redistribution in cheaper series, etc. But I pray they leave at least English voices or even let people choose between two language versions... If you are that crazy then here is a link to the CDP's website (Polish and Czech, however they are working on an English version): CDP Main page

Boginka, you were reading my mind! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> Perhaps you are one of the Powerfully Insane also! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> I of course could only read what was in english, but the words <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> jump out in a prominent place! That is all that matters. Thank you very much for the link. Prophets need all the info they can get. Even if they don't understand it! Thanks again! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Staples, a name is one of many factors - This is true, even now I wish I would have chosen more of a roleplaying name if I knew I was going to post this much. I guess even Staple or Stapler would have been better in the eyes of others, but I simply chose a name of a store here in the US. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> Guess I just wanted something that would be accepted on the first try and get confirmation.

Mslynx, no I am not - I try to be neither an enemy nor a fan of something. Be warm or cold, but not hot or frosty... I can't understand how not understandable info can be of use, but I don't have to understand everything. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> Too much understanding in that sentence... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> I can keep an eye out (unlike You I know both English and Polish <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ) and when I'll see any larger official or unofficial actions connected with either DD od BD I might PM it to You - if You are interested that is. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/question.gif" alt="" />
Staples, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> If You just hadn't told it aloud You got the name from a US store it would be for me just as much "roleplaying name" (whatever You mean by that...) as any other. Do You really find names like (no offence meant here, to anyone) Dead Meat, Boginka, Raze, crazycereal etc., much more "roleplaying"? For me there is no real difference in perception between posts of Gadariel Sah'Kor of The Elven House (for example) and Harods, Toys'r Us or Alan15 - it's how you write and what you write not under what name you do it that makes the difference... Just my private opinion there.

Just my stupid question Staples (I ask a whole lot of stupid questions - be aware of that fact <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />), but why do You feel the urge to be "someone"? Then again it's not my business - be whatever you like - friend of Bilbo, Frodo, Sauron, Midas, Batman or Yogi Bear... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Jurak, if that was by some chance to me, though it didn't have to be, than.. * bows deeply *.

Uhmmmm I don't know, it could be because I joined in on the RPG chat. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
But I do like the name Midas! I could specialize in brakes as one of my skills. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Seriously, Midas is a pretty cool nick, Midas the Mage. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" />

Staples, so if you join some other chat you'll get another nick, and yet another, and.. (ad infinitum if You wish)? Doesn't make much sense to me. As for the name - I'm not sure whether it's good idea... You do know who Midas was, right?

You don't? Oh well, I'm quite surprised. Here's the story(the rest of the post is absolutely off topic) Midas was a mythological king of Phrygia (Greece), I know two stories he is connected with, I'll give them here in short versions - look up the books for details. 1. Midas and Dionysus - Midas had once captured a satyr, those creatures were closely connected with Dionysus the Greek god of wine and not very civilized celebrations. Dionysus offered to grant Midas one wish if the king frees the satyr and Midas agreed. He loved gold beyond measure so he asked the god to give him the ability of changing everything he touched into gold. Soon Midas learned the gift was more a curse than a blessing - the food and liquids changed into solid gold and were uneatable, the king's bed became a block of metal and on top of that Midas once hugged his only daughter thus changing her into a golden statue. Desperate he asked Dionysus to take the gift away. 2. Marsyas and Apollo - there lived a satyr called Marsyas who challenged Apollo (god of music and arts) to a contest in flute playing. Apollo accepted the challenge, judges were chosen, the two contestants played. The judges decided that Apollo is far superior to Marsyas. The god decided to punish Marsyas (the punishment was very cruel so I'll skip it). After dealing with the satyr Apollo was troubled by one more thing - one of the judges voted for Marsyas - it was Midas. Apollo decided to punish him as well, he turned Midas's ears into those of a donkey and the unfortunate king had to live like that forever doing his best to hide his little secret...

Wow, sounds like a great story.
To tell you the truth, I can't even remember the last book I picked up. I rent alot of movies and half the time I don't even watch them. But for some reason now, this sounds familiar. Was there ever a kids version to this story?
I only ask since you mentioned that one part was very cruel and now I am thinking that I might have heard this story back in grade school. Maybe it was just a teacher telling us about the story with the golden touch and donkey ears.
But as you said, if I join another chat I will just get another nick. I'm not sure if others will look into it so deeply.

It is the subject of this topic : a name is it important or not. When you change your name, something in your past disappears. @ Boginka Very interesting off topic. I am sure that LUCRETIA will appreciate it.

We should name the game "LUCRETIA, the Riftrunner". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Or "Morbo, the Riftbrain" ... or "Kiya, the Riftlibrarian" ... or ...

Staples, Wow, sounds like a great story. Not for Midas I suppose. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> The tastes should not be discussed though I can't imagine a week without books and on the other hand can't remember the last thing I've seen on TV from start till end, except news. It was quite likely You were told the myth by a teacher in grade school. I can't recall whether there has ever been a version for kids. Barta, not exactly about names but still... For some reason I liked Your previous avatar better but I guess "evil" people have to have "evil" avatars. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> AlrikFassbauer, we can name the game how we like, the question is how will they name it.

Ovid's Metamorphosis (don't know the exact English title) has everything in it. Murder, crime, vicious deeds, tragic, everything.

I am really glad. Boginka wrote the story perfectly and I am gald to know that there are people who know the Myths of my country.
One small correction though. The fests of the God of Wine there were civilized <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> They just drunk too much there <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> But usually those fests were for no harm. The worst thing that happened was the fest to turn up to an orgy. Ather than that they were drinking, eating and dancing and making love.
The story of the Golden king was ment to be a lesson in order humans avoid greed sp?

Again <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> (seem to like those <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ) In fact I take genuine interest in a few things and among them mythology and religion of different peoples.. I'm going to be bad <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> and try to correct a Greek in terms of Greek mythology or rather religion. Warning! Not very nice content - read at Your own risk. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> Are You sure LUCRETIA, that tearing apart a bull with bare hands and consuming it's raw flesh still dripping with blood is entirely civilized? That is a description of one of the ceremonies that took place on the early feasts of Dionysus. You must know that at first Dionysus was the god of fertility and harvest (grape vine was not known in ancient Greece until I think IV/III century BC) and he was believed to sacrifice himself every year to be reborn the following one.. There are also descriptions mentioning the above being done to a human who impersonated Dionysus but I am rather skeptical. Of curse as time passed the cult of Dionysus got more civilized and in fact became the hub of Greek theatre, wine drinking and other... hmmmmmmm... activities <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
If I am still wrong Your corrections shall be most valuable. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
AlrikFassbauer, hope that's not a suggestion to rename <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> to Metamorphosis? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
