Saddam has finally been captured after several months of being on the lam. Whether or not you support Bush or our allies, This has to be good news.

Yes, we in the German Chat have already been speculating whether this is the "real" Saddam or one f his Doppelgängers. He had several of these, so to say.

all i say is, i can't trust bush. i've been wondering the same as you, alrik.

Now, let us imagine they caught one of Hussein's Doppelgängers... and presented him as the real one. How ridiculous would they be if the real Saddam Hussein showed up and told us that the great coalition caught the wrong person? Or even worse: If people found out that it was not even a mistake but if they intentionally presented a Hussein Doppelgänger as the real one?

Even though I agree in not trusting Bush and the coalition, I don't think that they would do anything dubious in such an important matter. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

Whehter or not this is the 'real' Hussein or nor I hope that things do not get worse than they are. For some reason I've got a real bad feeling in my gut that the worls will see terrorism on a grand scale that will be many time worse than what we have seen.

How can you tell that's a mole? That could be anything from a rash to a bug bite. He was living underground and all.

They did DNA testing to see if it was him before they announced the capture, and it turned out to be positive. I know Saddam had dopplegangers, but I really don't believe he had clones.

Of course, I'm sure there will be people saying that the evil US could have fudged the DNA testing which is why I'm hoping the US allows other countries that have opposed us to conduct their own DNA tests on him to make sure and prove it's him.

For example, if France does an DNA test on him and agrees it's Saddam, then I think we can all agree it's not some big bad Bush hoax.

About the DNA tests:

With what do they compare his DNA? I mean, there isn't the name of a person written on one's DNA, you have to compare it to some other DNA in order to say if it's the same or not. And I have been wondering for the whole day now where and when they did get the DNA of Saddam Hussein so that they can be sure now that the man they have captured is him? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

Seeing as how you can do a DNA test from a strand of hair, I'm pretty sure they probably already had something to compare it to, since they knew they would have to do this test.

I really doubt they'd do it, if they didn't have anything to compare it with.

I don't say that they haven't had anything. I just wonder how they can be sure that the source DNA is really Saddam Hussein's.

well, they can do a mitochondrial DNA test. mitochondrial is passed on through the mother, so saddam's mother and all his siblings and him would have the same mitochondrial DNA.

and mickey, you are right about the spot maybe not being a mole, but on tv it certianly looked like one. i hadn't heard about the DNA test, that makes it more believable.

although i can never fully trust bush, i don't really think that he would fake a capture of saddam.

i just hope the madness that both dudes have dramatised will be over, especially for the iraqis who have suffered too much. & anyone citing collateral damage should be slapped in the mouth & butted in the head. they should try have their family members decimated before saying something as cruel as collateral damage.

Well 1) Yes is can be done that fast, they can be done in less than a half hour the longer part is analyzing them. 2) No,I dont think we can shut you up 3) Depends on if you preorder it....

This doesn't change anything. Saddam was just a face, the iraqi opposition won't stop and have a new leader soon. But thats an issue for G. Bush Jr. Jr. to solve. ...

I don't trust Bush, I don't trust the US, they should try to keep their owns streets safe first before they go playing cop of the world.

I'm so sick of this people hating Americans just because of damn Bush and the "evil" government. I agree, the US should fix it's own problems before going off to other countries and trying to fix everyone elses. But I also agree this is not the end. Something really bad is going to happen.

The reason I don't trust the US is because its leader, Bush. It's not that I don't trust Americans. I don't trust the country, the goverment. They've proven they can't be trusted.
