about gender bender (anybody still remember this thread?) thing, i feel it's important for me to know if the person i'm chatting with is a male or female. that way i adjust my speech accordingly. it doesn't mean that i'll be crude wit hthe guys & flirt with the gals. no, language is very very subtle & it's an art to be able to weave a conversation & make the other party important in it.
