for those still looking for a Christmas present . I'm playing and enjoying it tremendously - it's a mix out of RPG and strategy. It's just a tip, no review or recommendation, ok?

Many missions are done with your ava and available heroes (if you can activate them via runes and monument) or you build up your army at once and fight enemies until you destroy their respawn points (21/22 maps have to be revisited partly several times). You can play it out of birds view or looking over your ava's shoulder. Many quests and subquests, not all solvable in one mission but carried on. The forum recommends building up your char as a fighter and develop your magical abilities afterwards - I didn't, I'm a Necromancer with Dark magic. Skills are developed via lvl up and skill pts. Take care and don't learn too many, will weaken your char.

As my strategy brain is more underdeveloped than my RPG part I find it quite challenging. But if you decide to buy it: install patch 1.03 first. I'm lvl 20 so far and had 4 freezes, I think average lvl at the end is 25/26 for the most, though the lvl cap is far higher.

Check out your PC enquirements first

I hope, Patarival will say something to this game - he's playing it also.

there's another game called knightshift or once upon a knight which i think may be similar to spellforce. a mix of rpg & rts.

sadly the demo which is about 200++MB large is too much for my poor 56k modem.

Nope, can't be compared to Knightshift really, I checked that for the library and installed both.

KN has 2 seperated approaches, RPG or strategy. This is not the case in Spellforce, you have these missions only, only your way to solve it differs RPG/strategy approach. Graphic can't be compared either.

Merendrious, I extra wrote down: CHECK your requirements - as the demo includes the tutorial - it may seem a bit longwinded for some and some may believe, this game is very easy - it's not. I wish the original manual would've been a bit thicker, but the released version has a lot of online help - if you're patient enough to read through all that stuff.

K, I played the demo, I really enjoyed the game, it's a really good mix between RPG and strategy. I'm planning to buy the full game, but I want the new pc to arrive first, cause it went really slow on my P3 650 Mhz with geforce 2 MX, but it worked , not bad for a game that normally requires a 1gigHz.

You are very lazy, aren't you ? Does the "K" stand for "okay" or not ?

Anyway, I need a new PC prior to playing it ...

Jesus! Is that an actual screenshot?

I am playing Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne now. Wish I could play this but I doubt my poor P3666 will run it.

hey deathatthedoor! looking good! your avatar, i mean.

i've tried the demo for a while but now too busy with other stuff to deal with it thoroughly. it looks good but scrolls way too fast for me, even when setting the scroll speed to its lowest.

the game's a bit heavy on the graphics but it runs ok on a athlon 800MHz, geforce4 mx400, 256MB DDR RAM system. best to try it with lowest settings before notching up bit by bit.

the game has promise. will let u all know more soon. maybe after xmas.

K, having a brand new pc (p4 3GigHz, 512MB ram, geforce FX 5200, nice, etc , very good pc, altough i'm having problems that the pc restart sometimes while playing Divine divinity, max payne and this demo, and with Warlords 4 i don't have this problem) the game looks very good, it plays nice, so i'm gonna buy the game if I find it in the local gameshop.

Yep, those are the orc drummers and pipers in 1st person view - they look good, hm? Are necessary to keep spirits up and increase spell resistance for the orc fighters - you should see the trolls, they're really sweet - or the dark elves, yummy. They've got assassins - or the fragile elves, they're soooooooo beautiful. I really love this graphic, though I can't cherish it in 1st person view, too many fights.
And those orcs are not very polite in their comments - though the trolls are even worse. I'm just testing the arrogant dark elves now.
Kiya

Only if the map is clear of monsters I sometimes run around and peep over my ava's shoulder (largest zoom) to enjoy the landscape or my pretty Necromancer, specially when she's got her white/blue robe on, matches her long white hair. I do hope an addon will come out quickly - oh, and BTW the last patch is 1.05 now.

I've said it somewhere : Marian worked for a short time for Spellforce, and that's why I'm not surprised to see Orc Drummers there ...

Yes i became SF as a x-mas gift. And as i read about drummers i must smile about that. I never heard about orc drummers before DD. So Marian must have his "divine" fingers in that.

And maybe in their alignment also? - these orc cowards run away when they're nearly dead (okok, maybe a sign for intelligence) - and even in their comments? Complaining about work etc...
Kiya

I'm a fan of them - they have nice mages...

WOAH! So many games Marian worked in!
From Warcraft 3 to Warhammer figurines!
He's TRULLY a great man: I mean working in so many projects at the same time...
Hell! I just realised that he helped J.R.R. Tokien to write LOTR! Maybe Marian is some kind of Divinity? (hence the name of the first game)...

I am really sorry: forgot my keys yesterday so had to wait 3 and a half hours by the door untill father came back. You could imagine my mood today.

Sorry guys.

To kiya: i didn't know Spellforce had first person! But then I didn't really play the demo much: it crawled like a drunken, beaten snail on my computey.
