Usually, when you come across a portal and you can't immediately fid the means to open it, then you can leave it, because the MQ will take you there. The stone gate in Liannon is one of those points that I spent hours searching ohow to get in, but then eventually the MQ took me there.
As for Berserk, you'll probably get it when one of your Weapons Skills gets high enough.
