I finished the game with my warrior a couple of months ago and haven't played since. But iam thinking of playing again with a survivor. But I don't know how to play them well. can some on tell me what skills to get and how to play with them?

What playing style are you thinking of? Archer vs melee, steel vs magic? There is not really a separate way to solve quests by sneaking, lockpicking, stealing, etc. so survivors pretty much fall into warrior-like and mage-like categories. There are of course some quests that require survivor skills, but they are available to anyone.

differences between classes (minor spoilers)

Steel-Magic. What would be a good weapon choice? the classic sword and shield or spear?

There are more (and more powerful) swords consistently in the game than any other type of weapon. If you want something different, or more of a challenge, go with a spear. I don't recall there being any unique spears in the game, so you would have to buy one or rely on random drops to find one. If you don't want to change playing styles and want the most effective melee weapon, find a sword.
With Spear Expertise you can throw the spear, but I never tried using one.
