@ DAD ever heard of making a long story 'short' ??

I did, but I think that wordy stories are the best form of entertainment while short stories are best form of education. If the story was meant to be *Only* informative then of course a shorter one gets to the point sooner and takes the fun out completely. Long stories are meant to be long only if a talent was behind it to make it entertaining, exciting and enjoyable.
