I'm not talking about coop play during a regular game. I'm talking about having a server program that anyone or Larian can run that has a randomly generated arena or world where players can log on with their characters and explore/fight with/against other living players. They already have Battlefields, all they need to do is expand on that idea, by hosting the Battefield on a server and allowing players to connect to it and share the same environment. I think something like this would greatly add to replayibility and the value of the game in general.

Only thing I see wrong with the idea is that it's pretty easy to hack your characters, so the'll have to have some defined rules and limits on char and item stats (which they should already) and disallow anyone to log in with characters and/or items that passes these limits.

This could also be a playing field for them to develope a Divinity Online mmog.

Greetings.
How are you today?
I am fine, thank you.

Anyway, it's a suggestion for a game which supports multiplayer. Beyond Divinity doesn't. And never will, thank god: Larian can concentrate on the single player aspect of the game. Plus it's far too difficult to make: easier just to create coop mode like Diablo. Much easier and more fun: Battefields are a small part of the game, after all.
And your idea suggests that Larian should run a server. You know what server do you need for 1000 players across the world to connect? Email blizzard if you want to know the answer.

Happy New Year.

I like the game just the way it Is, single player mode. I never really got Into Mulit-Player to much..

I think a multiplayer duel mode wouldn't work as well for Divinity, mostly because of the limited party size. The items, skills, spells and such are all based on a long-running game, not a five minute melee. A warrior is really the only one with a chance, unless a wizard kills them before they get too close.

Has anyone played Daiblo I multiplayer? How well did that work?

Perhaps a us-vs.-them mission system would be better, like capture the flag?

(Don't worry about our responses. You just got three anti-multiplayers first. )

As well as Diablo 2.
Yes, Diablo 1 is short, but it was 8 years ago.
Lenght is not an issue, IMHO.

They're all absorbed in their MMORPGs.

Haha, so no one likes my idea. It's not anything I must have. It was just a whim idea. Sometimes you feel you are pretty powerful and would like to test yourself against another real player. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. Guess it's just the competitive nature in me. By no means does it need to be part of the released game or anything complex or big, maybe just a server where players can log on and be paired against another player for a 1v1 fight, maybe even have a ranking or ladder system. It could be a small separate side project, a bonus for those of us that bought and played through the Divinity game(s) and want to do something else with our characters.

You're right. I had the same idea for Neverwinter Nights, or rather, D&D in general. I had the urge to make a little ASCII game based on teams-of-four arena combat, but like most projects I get the urge to make, it never got anywhere. I ended up buying Neverwinter Nights instead. The thing with arena combat games, is they really need to be designed for that purpose. There are too many skills in D&D and Divine Divinity that have little to no combat effectiveness.

I'm still liking this idea of capture the flag, though. I might have to try my hand with the Aroura Toolset...

Hmm IIRC there are one or two available from Neverwinter vault that have the availability of CTF and there are some with warcraft rules of RTS use search and you are likely to find it

With a 'nick' like HandEFood and being an Aussie, trust me you are an original, they haven't got that far in cloning yet

Well I can tell you this....multiplayer mode would be sweet.

I do enjoy playing Diablo II, Sacred, Dungeon Siege (and it's expansion Legends of Aranna), and Neverwinternights (and all it's expansions) ONLINE. In my opinion that is the only thing lacking in both Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity. If one does not wish to participate in online play, they can simply play it single player (like you do now). But DO give us that choice. More copies of the game would be sold IF it had Multiplayer options.

Zzzzzzz
