Haha, so no one likes my idea. It's not anything I must have. It was just a whim idea. Sometimes you feel you are pretty powerful and would like to test yourself against another real player. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. Guess it's just the competitive nature in me. By no means does it need to be part of the released game or anything complex or big, maybe just a server where players can log on and be paired against another player for a 1v1 fight, maybe even have a ranking or ladder system. It could be a small separate side project, a bonus for those of us that bought and played through the Divinity game(s) and want to do something else with our characters.
You're right. I had the same idea for
Neverwinter Nights, or rather,
D&D in general. I had the urge to make a little ASCII game based on teams-of-four arena combat, but like most projects I get the urge to make, it never got anywhere. I ended up buying
Neverwinter Nights instead. The thing with arena combat games, is they really need to be designed for that purpose. There are too many skills in
D&D and
Divine Divinity that have little to no combat effectiveness.
I'm still liking this idea of capture the flag, though. I might have to try my hand with the Aroura Toolset...
