hey i was thinking that they should make some kind of special shields for archers, something where they can put on their arm, the bit between the elbow and hand but they don't have to be as good as the normal shields, jus something to boost your armor a bit, something light.

i saw this when i went to a show where they were 2 people horseriding and had bows, they took shots in shooting each other and they managed to block the arrows , so maybe they can deflect other peoples hit, pretty kewl.

Vulgar, now we're going to expect more and more ideas out of you, so you'd better keep them coming!

I love the idea of an archer's shield! It could be a small round shield with a vertical slit from centre to top. The shield attaches to the bow. The limited vision through the slit would reduce your Offence rating slightly to compensate for the Defence bonus on a two-handed weapon. Great idea!

Hah! I played a PnP Game called RoleMaster some years back and persuaded the dm to let me make a couple of weighted rods that I could clip on the bow for a + attack rating, this worked fine but understand that things like shields or my 'rods' take away from the Agility you need to wield a bow expertly, so it basicly meant that the increment of attack after the Agility Penalty came down to ... well square one, aside from the fact that it cost me a pretty bit of gold.

So sure you could have a clip on mini shield with a defense bonus of 10 % but what if your accuracy becomes worse???

Exactly! The penalty for a shield is less combat ability. For melee characters, using a shield means not using a two-handed weapon. So a bow user would be penalised due to increased weight and limited vision. On the other hand, they would have a better chance of survival should the foes come close or fire arrows back at you.

so in the end its like this (a summary)

1 handed weapon with a shield: normal damage, normal accuracy n normal armor
2 handed weapon with a shield: less acurracy, same damage n more armor

Yeah but that is fairly basic, the less accuracy might mean you miss alot and then you would have to draw your melee weapon anyway cause the enemy is too close

A totally different thing which popped just now into my mind is, to combine a round shield with a bow in such a was, that the middle point (the center, actually) of the round shield is the point where the arrow comes out.

It's quite difficult for me to explain what I mean, but I hope you've got the picture.

that would look weird, a bow with some round thing, wonder how can actually aim without seeing the target? lol you would have to make it a small shield, otherwise you cant aim for peoples.... well actually mens <cough> lol

after just writing that, i just thought of this why don't rpg include crotch armors lol

That's sort of what I was thinking. I wasn't thinking a permanent attachment, but that's certainly possible. I was thinking of a circular shield with a vertical cut from top to centre so that you could load the bow and sight through this slit. It's like a portable arrow slit.

More like if you just wore the shield on the arm that holds the bow...buckler style between the wrist and the elbow. Archers are kinda jipped for armor.
