Als ! The limitations of earth-bound languages !

Hello, everyone.

I think I'll have some problems to properly explain here what I mean, because I don't know the proper words for what I mean in German.

Well, the thing is the following :

I was playing Blizzards Action-RPG , and went on thinking.

When the character you play there, dies, the char can be "revived" by paying a fee .. to whom , actually ? Some kind of Goddess ?

That's a good point, because I had a different method of "reviving" in mind :

Assuming there still gods in the world of DD2 , then one of them might do a special thing after a character you play has died : The thing I mean is in German called "entrücken", and in English it could be formulated as "removing from the mundane world" - a thing like Valkyries coming and taking fallen warriors with them - to a better place , Paradise, maybe.

Also, I went on thinking what would be if the Goddess from my story "The Adorant" / "Der Adorant" (to be found somewhere here in this Forum) would be real - in the sense that Gods and Goddessess were actualy there in a game like in my story.

The thing I had in mind for the game is a similar one : At least in "easy mode" it could be possible to do a Goddess such a work - actually in the game !

This is the thing I had imagined : Your character is dead, has die in a battle or due to poison. The screen gets blurred and a God or Goddess appears ... looking like the ones you've seen in the "cut-scene" after ringing the gong in , but in the size of the fallen hero. The God or Goddess takes the fallen hero and takes him (or her in case of a heroine) away, carrying him or her or by just taking the hero by the arm, the hero stands up, and follows the God or Goddess. The screen is still blurred, the enemies cannot see them both, only the fallen corpse and start plundering it.

In-game, this "taking away" leads into "another try" , meaning that the hero gets another chance without reloading. I think that would be especially good for "easy mode" players, those who just want have fun while playing and don't want to relead every time the character has died.

The drawback of this is the immense graphical work for such a scene. Blurring the screen can be done by using Directx (Prince of Persia has done it) (which unfortunately makes prting the game to other systems more difficult) , but the actual animation of "taking the hero or heroine away" would be immense work, so much that I even doubt it could be done - especially for such a small developing company like Larian Studios.

Well, that's just another suggestion from my side, and it's quite complex - as usual.

Alrik.

yep thats a good idea, i think it should only be put on easy aswell because people can change their money amounts quite easily, so then they'll never die, thats the only flaw in this idea
but its good i like it...good job

In order to get this gift from the Gods. Do you have to do special quests for them? Or make donations to their alters for favor? In the Prophesy there are 7 Gods. Would you have to choose a God to worship? Or can you worship them all and get special abilities/gifts from each one? I like the idea of a God interveining on your characters behalf. Are you familiar with the Sierra City building series? In them while you are building your cities you must pay homage to all the Gods. Otherwise they wreak havac on your city. Destroy things, sink ships, destroy graineries, etc. But if you pay homage to all the Gods, you get their blessings, good crops, faster ships, etc. I think it would be really cool to have that in a RPG. The cut scenes are doable to, I think.

Sounds interesting!

It reminded me of an old platformer game, New Zealand Story. If you got far enough through the game on one life and lost your last life, you would go to hell instead of getting Game Over. If you could get out of the hellishly difficult level, you were given an extra life or credit. (I'm guessing. I never actually made it out. )

Hmm... what about having the player pass through increasingly difficult levels of Hell each time he dies? At some point, he will die in Hell - permanently. It's a bit better than monetary penalties.

i don't like the "death is not the end" style. Death to me should be permanent. Save and reload is good. Allthough angels would be great..

Hmm I am playing NWN:HotU on a PW server at the moment where if you die you go to "Death's Chamber" this is after you die (ofcourse) and he comes and actually picks you up, and drops you in his office.

Now once there you get the chance to talk to "Death" himself and argue the point that you are not ready to die yet, at this point Death may say; after a virtual Die roll; okay you are right it is not your time yet!

Now you can ask him to drop you off at the place where you died (Die Roll)if he believes that, you should you go back to the fight you died in completely healed.

If he doesn't believe you you can try threatning him, in which case you go back to the last city you visited, in the form of a chicken (temporary) and a loss of 10% XP & 10% gold.

If he thinks you should have died, you can still plead to go back to your city with a loss of 10% XP & 10% gold, but and here's the kicker, you can then travel back to the place you died, find your Gravestone and pray at which time you can get back 10% per D10 dieroll, which is a wonderful idea, me thinks anyway

There was a very, *very* short rumor, never confirmed, that in Death himself would pick up the deacd character.

I don't know nothing more about it.

Some Death-like figure (aka "the Grim Reaper") was seen under special circumstances ("GOlden Pot" )in the Bee-Wasps-world.
