I am not sure if this helps but, I found that if you do the quest for healing the two injured guys in the first town, then you get a reward from the lizard guy that helps you heal 40 hit points with using 8 magic.
You have to use the magic mirror and healing gem. Duplicate the gem in the deep puddle and then take the gems to each guy and heal them. After that just talk to the healers(Dwarf and Lizard) and you will be rewarded for your effort.
You most likely already know or have already done this but I thought I should point it out anyway heheh.
