I have killed the vampire, in the dark cave, but the quest lost boy is still there. Didn't I rescue him...Or do I have to find the girl, Caroline i think her name was and talk to her to pass the quest...?

yes, u're right on the later part. talk with caroline, the boy's mom to complete the quest. she's south of ars magicana.
