Two weeks prior to the game's release. Basically, they'll finish the game, crop it back for the demo, and release the demo while they press the CDs. A bug free demo should win them a few more points.

I think theire should be a gameplay movie 2 weeks before the demo is released.
Now lets do the math
interview with "spelletjes garnaal" said the release would be march 5th.
So 20 Feb the demo will br released
so the gameplay movie would be expected
6 feb => in 13 days

In another thread Joliekiller said, "important message to all who wants to do testing. There are tests till the end of februari. Candidates send a mail to Lynn. She'll let you know if the days are free you have given." So how could a demo come out before beta testing is done?

This is only a mathimatical projection of how things can go. The release date of 5 march isn't announced official (and think it will be posponed again). I just got that date out of an interview.
I can't follow your reasons saying that a demo can't come out before the betatester are done with it. To me a demo is always a beta test of a small part of the game with manny testers . I am shure that when the demo is release, a few people will experience problems and report them back to larian so that in the final game all bugs will hopefully be gone(programmers truth: A programmer can nerver kill all bugs. programmers truth: bugs are just extra gamplay option)when they release it.

With this was the case : Actually the Demo led to the discovery of a few bugs, as far as I can remember. But I#m not totally sure anymore (too long ago).

was first puyblished in Germany, how mutch was it? 1 mounth? before the english release. but i don't know if there was a german demo out here?
what i do know was a few days after the demo was online, there was a emergency patch for the radion users, i thought?
and the most funny thing was , after the dragonrider killed you the demo stops officiallly. but someone founded out we could playing the demo even further. there were some people (was it @Ragon?) who was on level 23 or soo in the cursed abay, and you couldn't see your own hero, or sometimes object or enemies. but they just keep on playing the demo

Yes, you are right. The Demo wasn't German, it was the only demo out there, available for everyone.
The thing with "playing after the official ending" is right as well, I remember a *huge* excitement about that !
Well, but I don't remember anymore how much earlier the game was published in Germany before the rest of the world.
I can only remember that it was like hell in the Forum : Everywhere people yelling for help, being bitten by bugs, and we had to help them - quickly, of course.
Because CDV had put the pressure on Larian, they simply HAD to relese the game that early - with all consequences. In fact, it was like betatesting for me, although I was glad I could help, because I wanted a good game, appealing to the rest of the world. There were srious bugs in it, and the Larians published 4 Hotfixes (at least I can remember 4), before they were incorporated into the first REAL Patch.
The support Ragon provided at that time is still priceless, but few remember. Lar mentioned it once in an interview, and he was right. I was the second one there, at his side, as often as I could, and soon there were more helpers, especially Barnabus and Hellfighter, not to forget Cherrybuster, who helped a lot, too. These are the main names I still have in my memory, but others helped a lot, too.
The most difficult thing was to "canalise" everything, the bug reports, konstantly asking for system specs, for details, putting the pressure on the people reporting bugs to do so in a very detailed way so the developers could actually draw conclusions from them. By the time I saw it as a serious task to compile the complaints in a way so the evelopers could more easily draw conclusions from them than if they had been in a rather rough, "unedited" form. Ragon was the one with more technical know-how than me at the time, so he was even more efficient, ihmo, than me and could in some cases even provide real help wehere I had been more or less clueless.
It was a great relief to see other newcomers actually fall into our "support squad" and helping as good as they could, too. It was like lifting some pressure from my shoulders.
As I recall these memories, they get blurred by the time. People tend to exaggerate things, fit them to their memories rather than the other way round. You might know that as the "in my youth everything was better"-problem. So, with having the fact in mind that memory gets blurred by the time, I think I won't write it down very often in the future anhymore, just because the more it gets blurred, the less I can be sure that my memory is still objective.
What I wrote is what I had in my memory. Others might have a different view on what happened at that time; I'd like to hear those views, too. Ragon ?

ah the memories. i joined the old forum about 4 mounts before the release of . the german part of the forum was already at full capacity. ofcours with alot of fans of LMK. and i remembereed that there were a few "gods" roaming the boards with postcount up to 3000+ all "divinity" status, @Ragon, @Alrik, there was another one...
these were all fun times. we all fantasized about how the game would look like, like we all did for but there was a very special athmosphere already back then.
if it were hectic times back then, you surely all did a wonderfull job!
i think we have to reorganize the forum's help section when the comes out! it's funny exialy, now a few mounth before comes out a a lot of new people joining our forums to say they just bought it's like the game is becomming more popular.

To me a demo is always a beta test of a small part of the game with manny testers I have always thought of demos as a way that folks can try out a game before buying it to see if they like it enough to buy it. If I am correct, then it would always be in a company's interest to have a demo bug free because people don't like buying software that is full of bugs. Unless of course it is entomology software.

it's true, i downloaded a flot of demo's and they just didn't worked out the way it soposed to do. like hanging up, buggie interface. like the game "ghostmasters" looks very cool , but the demo was buggy, soo i dicided not to buy it.
usely there are some fixed you can find on forums, made by fans. But sometimes it just have to work.
but was something completely else. you just knew this was a beautiful game. when i played the demo

I think theire should be a gameplay movie 2 weeks before the demo is released. Where did you read that there would be a gameplay movie? Lar specifically said there will be NO intro movie like for Divinity. But a gameplay movie is not an intro movie of course. Still I don't remember reading anywhere somethig about a gameplay movie being released.
