1. There is a book beneath or behind some boxes where you found the mirror that will tell you more. It is needed to solve the quest to heal the 2 soldiers.
2. The barracks is quite a ways from Aleroth. Finish up in Aleroth, kill all the orcs around the town for exp and just follow the path. Eventually you'll cross a bridge into Rivertown and a bit later on will come to the barracks. There is no hurry actually.
The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?
