[color:"pink"] hey! pork schnitzel is good too! [/color]

Agree, specially with a fried egg and a sardine (Named Holsteiner Schnitzel),
it is however very difficult to eat if you are Jewish or from the muslim religion

Which brings me to my next question: Where did the term "hallal: come from I suspect the Koran, but what does it actually mean, (example) dirty food ?

Also I have read that Hallal does not allow food that burrows underground, so what about Mud Crabs? (very popular in Australia, anyone know of this stuff, Hey Jangutt haven't heard from the beard for a while ???

Thanks. It's very common here in Germany (and in Austria too, I think ) .

And in Greece too. Long live to the people who invented this recipe

Al thnx for the info

just got back from my vacation. sorry for being offline for quite a bit. thought nobody would notice/care. thanks for noticing, mea.

halal is actually the islamic version of kosher (which is jewish). halal is arabic in origin. mud crab is ok despite the knowledge that it burrows underground. the best person to ask about this is a moslem. a knowledgeable one, not the one who doesn't care/know much about his/her religion.

when the food is deemed halal, it means it's safe to eat for moslems. this was practical back then when certain food was relatively unhygienic(?) & therefore unsafe. now with better technology & science to ensure food is cleaner & safer to eat. range of halal food should get wider. but it doesn't. as moslems still adhere to past customs dictated by their religion: islam.

mud crab is nice. knowing how to prepare it makes it great. how would u cook it, mea? BBQ? or chili crab style?

Usually steamed and then sauteed with chilli, although it can be very nice in a Garlic white wine sauce (definitely no cream)

It is however horrendously expensive, as Mudcrabs go by weight and the avarage crab is about 1-1.5 Kg you look at approximately $150.00 - $200.00 per Crab, depending on the season

Hmm thanks Janggut, I had a bit of an argument over that with one of my Chef's and had asked some Muslim friends, but one said okay and the other couldn't have cared less, interesting though that the very strict Muslims tend to drink Scotch, considering the Koran states that you can't drink wine, but then again I guess that Scotch isn't wine

Oh and welcome back my friend, hope you enjoyed your Holiday, I know that 1 of these years I am gonna have a holiday, but I am not holding my breath, considering that the last 1 was oh err ... 17 years ago

Last year I eat something my mother had made - she is quite fond of crabs and shrimps. However, I got *really* sick (very high fever - I thought I must explode ! ) and sweared I will NEVER eat shripms or crabs again !

It was absolutely horrible !

dude! i think u're allergic to certain proteins in seafood. some of my friends are like that as well. they'll swell up & itchy on various parts of the body & to extreme extend fall sick badly. be careful.

over here at my place (which is a swamp!) mud crabs can be caught provided u follow the tides & the habits of the crabs. they're much much nicer than sea crabs, don't u think, mea?

for moslems, all alcohol isn't halal & that means beer, wine, whisky, etc... . heck, even the chinese white wine used for cooking isn't halal. the same goes for alcohol-based perfume & stuff.

& thanks for the warm 'welcome back'. nice to be back among online friends. & u should be taking vacations. malaysia's relatively cheap & has a lot to offer for great holidays. just let me know what u look forward to for your vacation if u ever consider malaysia & i can give some recommendations. bring the other aussies as well, like handefood.

hmm according to my customers, yes they are much better, but ... believe it or not, I am allergic to seafood oil, so I just serve it but can't touch it so to speak, although it can drive me crazy sometimes, like when I smell Garlic Prawns in sizzling Garlic Oil Hmm yum but nocaneat no more

I like them rather walking around, being alive !

Has anyone seen Nemo ? I mean the movie. The shrimp (orwhat it was) with the white-red colouring - they do exist in reefs and act as Cleaners for fishes of any sort - even the most dangerous fish cannot bite them while they are walking around and making clean !

This all sounds so incredibble ... I wal well astonishedwhen I saw this on TV for the first time ! It's a bit like a gas station for cars, only it's a "Cleaning station" for fish ! ... And driven Shrimps ...
