I am in Aleroth, and have entered the catacombs that start at the foot statue after turning the Dragon Pedestals to dace north.

How do I proceed past the iron gate that is blocking the hallway to the east? Is there a key?

Where can I get a set of Lockpicks? I have selected open locks as a skill, but it is useless without the picks.

Oh, yeah...one more question.

I selected Identify Item as one of my skills, but it is still 'grayed' out not available to me. Why is that?

No there is no key,
There is a lever on your left when you proceed the opening (look careful it's a skeleton haed with a stick sticking out of it).

If youre lucky you will find some lockpicks but you can buy them off people later in the game.

You already have identify on level one but you have to wait a couple of levels before you can take it to level 2... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />.

Hope this ansers your questions <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />.

By the way welcome to the forum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> i'm new to!

Identify is a passive skill, so can not be selected. When you hit the alt key or move you mouse cursor over an object, the details will be displayed as long as you have Identify at a high enough level, otherwise the required level will be displayed.

You will find lockpicks in the catacombs. There are at least 2 chests which can't be opened any other way down there.
Identify is a passive skill which will automatically work for you when you mouse over an item; it doesn't need to be selected.

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

i could be wrong, but holding down the alt-key will highlight the levers so they will be easier to see?

I don't think so, but there is a gamma adjustment in the graphics options.

I would say the same as Raze, but it's been quite a long time since I've played :div :
