As stated above certain creatures stop giving points once you reach a certain level .
I think 50 is just about as high as you can go if you solve all quests and kill everything .
I got up to 49 and a half because I stopped trying to kill everything at the final level , I was so strong nothing could stop me .
In Dungeon Siege you could start a new game with the same character and continue leveling up on a harder difficulty ,although it took forever to go up one more level even on the hardest difficulty setting .
