In my case, it was no alcoholic, but rather alcohol in general.

There is a story of me as a *very* young boy only very few people know :

At the time of my very young age (under 10 years quite surely), there was a song popular that went like this : "The devil made alcohol to seduce you" (rough translation.) (For any German reader : It was "Der Teufel hat den Alkohol gemacht, um uns zu versuchen", and the song was by Udo Jürgens. I was *very* young, then. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> )
I vaguely still remember it, but it is still sometimes told within our family : It was once that we went to church. People were singing, and within the church I didn't know what to sing. It was for the christian God and for Jesus and against the devil.
So, having made up my mind, I began singing this song in the church : "The devil made the alcohol to seduce us ..."
