There is a crash problem in Verdistis that has shown up a few times due to a corrupt world.x1 file.
Have you been to Verdistis before? If so, try saving under a new name (in case this doesn't help), then delete the world.x1 file from that folder (in '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames'), re-load and try Verdistis again. If you have not been there before in this game, a re-install of Divinity might help.
