I normally play a half elf for my ranger. Shhh! Nobody mention Tanis. I never even read Dragonlance in my teens, and it certainly hasnt affected my judgement :P

Thank you Jolie. I didn't know that! I had the patch ever since I got the game and never thought of it. How clumsy of me

And out of curiousity Whats your char and who do you have in party so far? My main character is a female Paladin (Undead Hunter) called Lysanna Then I had Keldorn (Inquisitor) to dispel illusions, dispel magic and to kick some generous butt Minsc (ranger), because he was so funny Anomen (cleric) - yes he's annoying, yes he whines, but he's one of the best characters in the game; being able to heal and destroy at the same time Imoen (mage/thief)- because I needed a thief and to add to the plot$ Aerie (mage/cleric): artillery with blonde hair

Minsc is one of the best NPCs ever. He's 3rd in the Top 10 NPCs Ever on Gamespy.com
I have: Me: Helem'gefd Ranco, Totemic Druid Jaheira (romance. I love her character) Yoshimo (I am not THAT far) Minsc Nalia
Later I'll switch Imoen for Yoshimo.
Every time I played BG2, I had Jaheira and Minsc in the party .

Rats, you are all forgetting the best character in the game, Boo of course!!
Oh and contrary to popular opinion or so it seems, I thought that BG1 was better then BG2 but only because you could explore so much, the first scene towards the "Friendly Arms" Inn always stays in my mind where Imoen and I are walking down into the forrest and we find a whole pack of bears, now for a lvl1 character (level 2 if you tried really hard) those bears where a handfull and the immense joy of finally having been able to kill all of them, with a bow and lots of running is just unforgettable, and due to that I was a little dissapointed with BG2, no real walking/exploring space

Oh God now you've gone and mucked my mind right up Mea If you read a post of mine back a bit you'll see i have BG1 and could not get "into" it to much, then, DATD expressed a view that BG2 was far better, and after reading a few posts had me convinced to seek it out(with expansion),and my mind was set ....till now What am i to do

The little bugger always killed my main character with one MMissile spell

Another moment I remember well was when I scored a critical on that mage and pieces of him flew arround Spick: I would suggest to reinstall BG1. If you cannot get into it, then you probably should get BG2. If you can get into it, you could finish the game and later buy BG2 and export your BG1 character in BG2 .

I'm sure of one, in the biggest store in the beginning. On Walkings promanade a girl names deirdre (iirc). But the second one i'm not sure off, its not bad to download the thing DATD proposes and install it. But defantly install the patch

^ Jolie is right: if you have Norton Utilities on your computer, the game's registry could be messed up when you run Error Check. Ah, one of the best classes for starters (and not only) is the Inquisitor kit for the Paladin.

@Mea: The freedom to explore was the best thing about BG1 and I missed it in BG2. But the more cohesive plot, brilliantly realised NPC's and general inventiveness made up for it IMO. Still, wandering around the wilderness, never knowing what you would find was engrossing. Anyone remember that guy who had been turned into a chicken? When a chicken started talking to me I thought someone had spiked my drink. Then I remembered it was already alcoholic.

Didn't you like the "SPOILER" Umar Hills Forest ? I think that was enough exploration for me. Still I think it's one of the best dungeons I've seen in an RPG.
For fun, I just created a female Inquisitor char. Got pretty nice rolls to attributes:
Strenght: 18/03 (ok, not too good) Dexterity: 18 Constitution: 18 Intelligence: 10 Wisdom: 13 Charisma: 18
Still, it's a good roll, don't you think?

But why do you think there's something wrong with him? Aerie is fragile, yes, but she is one of the best spellcasters in the game! (though I never have her in the party). Hmm... I guess if a day had 40 hours, people would have to work 14 hours instead of 8

I feel that Yoshimo is going to betray me.... But perhaps I am wrong....
Aerie is a good spellcaster indeed. But.... she talks too much.

If you keep Yoshimo in your party he eats the PC's hair while you sleep. By the end of the game you will be bald. Though in the end battles Yoshimo can spit up hair balls that are very damaging to the enemy!
Never understimate the power of the dumb side of the force! *Honk*
