It is a roleplaying game you know, if you feel guilty about Jaheira and you are more than neutral aligned you should take her, on the other hand if you are a little less then neutral you should drop her and get Viconia, after all you don't really care do you ?
If you can not seem to fit in either if these two categories then you must be of the wrong alignment all together.
What I am trying to say here is you are the person you do the thinking you do the emotions and as such play the game the way that it suits you.
Now this is not to say, that you have played BG 125 times already and you wanna do something different, like playing a neutral character, and trust me it is neigh on impossible to be neutral ... in everything you do or feel, but you can try

I'm just about to leave Athkla for the first time, and this is my party:
Me (monk)
Minsc (should I take Korgan instead?)
Anomen (I feel sorry for him)
Jaheira (she's annoying me, should I trade her for Viconia? I feel guilty when I try to make her leave)
Nalia (I might drop her for another thief after I finish her quest, although she seems like she might be somewhat useful)
Aeria (seems pretty useful)
Any suggestions? I'd drop Anomen for Viconia, Minsc for Korgan, and Aerie for Edwin

Nah, I just think Viconia, Korgan and Edwin are more powerful than Annoyman, Minsc or Aerie.
I personally don't pay attention to alignment.

If you can not seem to fit in either if these two categories then you must be of the wrong alignment all together. Well, my character is good in the sense that he doesn't steal, won't kill merchants on the road for money, and helps out those in need. He's not good in the way many of the other good NPC's seem to be - self righteous prunes. None of the "evil" characters seem that bad to me though...none complained that I had to rescue Imoen, none tried to convince me to hold Nalia for ransom (she probably would get me that 20,000 gold easy), none have betrayed me, and none have really disobeyed me...in fact, I am questioned more by the "good" characters. Korgan didn't even kill Anomen when Anomen insulted him. It's still early in the game though, maybe this will change, I don't know. I will say the "evil" people seem much more relaxed and fun, and willing to crack a smile now and then. The "good" people seem to be into patting themselves on the back and being depressed. Not very commendable traits, and I don't really trust them as much. What I am trying to say here is you are the person you do the thinking you do the emotions and as such play the game the way that it suits you. Heh, then I'll just choose like I would in real life, and choose whoever is a little nutty and willing to have fun. I mean, just because I'm a nice guy doesn't mean I can't have fun with evil people...and if I rejected anybody because I thought I was so much better than them, would I truly be good? I'd drop Anomen for Viconia, Minsc for Korgan, and Aerie for Edwin That's about what I'll do, though I'm gonna keep Anomen and drop Jaheira, and what 'till I find this Edwin before deciding if I'll drop Aerie...maybe she'll have pushed me too far by then, but as of now it's pretty fun to have her around (like taking someone sightseeing). In case anyone's curious, this is my first time through (and I've never played the original).

Jaheira is much a better tank than Anomen, plus she comes with a romance for male PCs.

I'm going to post this here and hope that it gets buried before too many people see it.
This is how you can make any character the Bhaalspawn. Save before trying, as always.
1) Enable cheats 2) Pause the game and CTRL-K the PC and the NPC you want to make the Bhaalspawn. 3) Talk to the NPC and bring them back into the party before you talk to the PC to bring him back into the party.
CTRL-Y the NPC to kill him. You should get the movie of the hand disintegrating.

Heh, I haven't played BG2 in a long time. But, looking through the posts in this thread brings back a lot of memories.
I tried a variety of classes and alignments in the game. I think the only class I didn't get to play is barbarian. I don't know why...
Anyhooo.. as far as romances go, I prefered Viconia for males and.. uh... by yourself for females (Anomen gets very annoying). For classes, I always have been comfortable with the druid class. I also liked to dual class/multiclass because then, I can get more than one stronghold. Unfortunately, the stronghold for the druid class is kinda boring.
Hehe! After seeing this thread, I might play BG2 again during spring break

Got the game installed yesterday (after a friend told me ISO files are supposed to be played in daemon tools, NOT to be unpacked ), and the question is: What to play??? (I don't know about a dwarven fighter my brother suggested...)

could you be a bit more precise about what you would like to play?
well basically any choice will close you some options in the game.
for the beginning i will advise a non specialized class but it is a personnal view (from someone who is not a big fan of BG2)...
I add than personaly i prefer playing this game in a magical class...
No real need for being a warrior as you would recruit them. IMO.
hmmm... the mage skillsystem is not the more impressing i've ever seen in an RPG though. Basically the same as for NWN except it's a bit more weird. (let's say it was improved for NWN).

I was thinkging of a fighter of some kind, but I whant to be able to do other things than crush skulls too (been thinking of a paladin...). Any suggestions?
My brother told me about his gnome who started with 18 in all main abilities exept strenght, where he had 16. He was a mage. (drools...)

Hey guys, i started to think about to play again this game, Ubereil the last time i've played i tried to do a char like that other hero what you find in the final of the game to help against BODY(The vampire - syster of Irenicus). I don't remember his name but is a powerfull guy - two swords - looks like a fighter ranger - i don't know - the guy have power.
But i didn't finished the char, to say the truth only started.
Who's gonna show you how to fly!
