All you need to do to sleep is click on a bed. If you're in the wilderness, you need to carry a bed with you. You can combine two bales of hay to make a bed. Also there is a portable bed in the house south of the Cursed Abbey.
The Identify skill is automatic. Just point at an item and it will identify if you have a high enough skill level. You'll see a sparkle on it when this happens.
