Back up your nwnmain.exe file. Back up your whole NWN folder if you must. And believe me, drivers generally don't murder your computer unless you're really unlucky or the producer is that incompetent. I've never had any problem with, say, NVidia drivers. Download file, follow wizard...
Which is? There are several patches for NWN main and others for the expansion. There is also a critical rebuilt thing in one of the cds. I have installed that too.
Load up NWN and hit the "update" button. It detects your version automatically and downloads the patch for it. Believe me, it won't get you the patch for HotU or something. It all but holds your hand and leads you through the process.
