IIRC, Marian was one of the two fighting when you enter the Larian armour easter egg area.

"The other guy" is - as far as I kbnow - Ingmar "Major Fatal" - another one of the graphics artists in the Team.

my orignal point is even more overwhelming as the game develops. I felt early on that more exp should be given for solving quests, and having visited versitis (or whatever) and solved 8 quests i still haven;t gone up 1 single level.

I am a little surprised there hasn;t been more talk of this, as the exp is so insignificant it almost makes quests (other than the ones you have to perform to complete the game) meaningless. I really enjoyed the moment when i came across the vampire killer, as it was one of the first set quests, yet was hardly impressed by the exp gained. Ricidiously i under the versitis sewers i actually went up 4 LEVELS, just by fighting the many monsters that are down there.

Is this equal killing lots of monsters quickly and effortlessly = 4 levels up

Solving 8 quests, some which were significant = 0 levels up, not even close to going up a level

Please I just pray this will be adressed in beyond devinity or the sequel to divinity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember a kind of poll - maybe even by Lar himself - on how m,any experience points should be given within the game - thus influencing level-ups or so.

You could also say that when you've got a quest you need to kill monsters acomplish your quest so that in one quest the exp should be the summ of the monster you killed + the bonus for completing the test.

Blowing up the orc train:

To complete this quest you need to kill a lot of orc. So you can say that the exp points from killing those orcs is part of the quest.

Not if you're a Survivor. You take the underground tunnel (minimal enemies), jump out, bomb, return. I agree that experience should be awarded for the quests more than the killing. Killing is a method of doing the quest. So is sneeking, talking, or any other bizare means. I still like Deus Ex. Zero XP for killing. You only get XP for completing tasks or making it to "checkpoints". The danger in making you way via combat, stealth or street-smarts is about equal. It just depends what you've trained in.

It's just a queston of finding the right blend. I do think that exp should be given for killing monsters etc, as otherwise their would be no point in killing them you could just run past them. There should be rewards for killing these monsters, but not at the expense of exp for solving quests. Might and magic got it just right, you were delighted when you solved a quest, and the difficulty of the quest was reflected in experience gained. Aditionally solving certain quests gave you other advantages e.g you had to solve a certain quest before you could become a master and gain the best spells to cast/ or use the best types of armour.

I suppose the monsters you killed whilst completing a quest could be considired exp for that quest, but this simply isn't enough. The exp for that quest should be gained by SOLVING THE QUEST, and subsequently reporting back to the relevant people for a justifiable reward.(not just someone saying "well done i'll never forget this" but instead a significant exp gain which makes you think that quest was hard but i'm glad i've completed it.

Well, what if monsters had keys and such that you needed to complete the quest. So you could kill them, pick their pockets, pick the lock, or use telekinesis on something that would help. Also, if lock picking took time, you would have to make your self safe before picking locks. You couldn't just bolt to the door, pause, select pick lock, open door, bolt to treasure...

yup no exp. for killing monsters would be quite boring..I never got higher then level 45 though ( still finished it ) But less exp for killing is acceptable..it would make quests more important at least..

That's a good point. Realism vs. fun.

Shadow Watch gave experience points for almost everything. You had a team of six specialits and had varied missions. A character received experience for:
[*]Going on a mission.
[*]Killing someone.
[*]Opening a locked door. (By key, lock-pick, foot or bomb.)
[*]Rescuing a hostage.
[*]Taking a hostage.
[*]Retreiving the secret documents.
[*]Setting a demolition charge.
[*]Planting "bugs".
[*]Using the scanner (detects people through walls).

So could they use this concept? Any action that assists in completing a quest (now that'll open a debate!) is worth experience.

Baldur's Gate 2 gave you experiance for finishing quests, for killing a monster, for disarming a trap, for opening a lock...

Shadow Watch was a pretty good game with it's random campaign generator.

that would make for easy exp.
i wouldn't like to get exp. just for opening a lock...even if it's only for certain parts of quests. But getting exp. for achieving certain parts of quests..i'd go for that

i agree with kabuti, having played baldurs gate exp was awarded for practically anything (although it was relatively sensible in as much as opening a lock may be 450 exp where as solving a quest may be 6500 exp). As long as the exp is appropriate for what you have acheived then that's the way an rpg should be.
