I've learnt, in most aspects of life, that this is a pointless question. All it does it stop you doing anything at all! So you lose a couple of charms in a piece of equipment. You shouldn't be relying on them for survival, they should be an assistance. Take a chance! Use lesser charms for now and save the larger ones for when you have better equipment. You could save them all to the end of the game, then they'd benefit you for a whole one fight. What would be the point of them then?
